Re: Seb podpad
I don't use one. I couldn't get it to work consitantly for me. I don't know anyone in SA who is using one either. I tried a few things in mine, but found the sand to move back to front. Garnet didn't work, too little and it was hard to get the levels even, too much and the joypod used to slip around on top. I would go with a piece of carpet on a soft rubber mat.

Re: Seb podpad
I couldn't get mine to work with sand/ cous cous or any other filler, eventually it ended up in a dome shape. I'm about to un-pick the seams and try sliding some closed cell foam in the outside pockets, closed cell foam is fairly rigid. I will probably fill the inner two pockets with a small amount of sand

Re: Seb podpad
I've never bothered with mine - use a carpet tile on a piece of 8mm steel plate. It's heavy to lug around but does the job and you can use it as a grader blade if you get a bad bit of mound. I saw williada using one recently and I'm pretty sure he'd tell you how he's filled it.

Re: Seb podpad
I haven't tried various type of sands in the Popdad myself - I just use any sand available in the match that I did attend.
I did use "white-cream" color sand like sand blasting media, probably zircon? Jason or Mark provided the sand for me in Oz.
I probably used "pinkish-bown" color sand when I shot in the US Nats last year... I forgot what I used.
I did not have any problem with them?
I used different rifles, too. And most new to me.
It is only important to fill the podpad in moderate hardness, not too hard/too full, not too soft.
Also to tap the top where the ski-feet rides on so that it creates a flat surface, not bulged/convex or concave.
It will also settle the sand inside that way.
I never changed my elevation (the height of the bipod), Etc, during a shooting string that way (either in 15 or 20 shots).
Once setup properly, my scope/reticle also backs to the "bull?" most of the time, no shifting to the side, tracks straight and vertically perfect.
A few shooters removed the thin neophrene inside, I didn't. But it does not matter anyway.
Hope this help.
See you again in the Queens next 22-26!

Re: Seb podpad
Jason Mayers (SEB Australia) won the Grand Agg Nats just a few days ago, he was using a Joypod & Podpad & Bigfoot bag combo. Again congratulations buddy!!! Top effort indeed.
He did not use steel plate with spikes under the rear bag, he did not use heavy plate in the front also.
Just a proof that the combo works, and works really well.
seb.
PS: I put a video in my facebook (on June 25), shooting a yardage with Jason side by side using the same combo.
It was a great time, Thanks everyone!

Re: Seb podpad
I was told they will be illegal soon as there have been quite a few complaints about them so I have avoided getting used to mine.

Interesting. Who told you that, btw, and why?

They went through a fairly rigorous test in the states a while back I heard, all is well with them now.
If you have new information to bring to light, I'd love to hear it.

Bob Peterson mentioned recently there had been quite a few complaints (he was talking freely to a few people about this issue to some shooters using the pads) about them and he said he was going to look at them as sharp footed bipods form ruts/ tracks in the top was the complaints. I decided not to get used to shooting with mine just in case as others have hinted in the past they might become illegal. To be honest when I did try mine when I first got it at the end of the shoot there was two grooves formed in the top where the feet had been tracking even with the joypod no matter how much sand I put in so I decided to use a plate with rubber instead. Some people run the bipod back and forth before the shoot to make two deep grooves which will for sure help the bipod track which is against the rules from my reading of the ftr rules. I dont personally dont care either way, I think what a shooter uses as a front plate, bag etc wont give much of an advantage, if the shooter cant read the wind no piece of gear will help them and good wind reading is what wins comps. Dont get me wrong I shot well with the Seb front bags, but I want to wait to see what the Aus ruling is on them before I would use them again, just in case.

Re: Seb podpad
Let me give my opinion here...
To my finding, it's all about the user e.g how to use their equipment... how to fill their front/rear bags, how to handle the bipod, etc.
I have used several podpads myself, just like what I did use during the Presidents & Queens a few days ago, I did move my rifle back and forth, pounding my rifle down very hard on the bags etc, but I did not make "deep grooves" on the podpad...??? (No way I, or the others, could make deep grooves on the new podpad)
Talking about Joypod, there are some differences between the old ones and the new(er) ones. Talking about the feet, the old ones have half moon shaped feet with "U" shape/profile up side down which could/might form a deep groove on the ground/mat. I have changed the feet design. The 2nd batch units (and on) now have flat-wide feet, which is impossible to form a deep groove on any surfaces including on the podpad.
Talking about Podpad, on the new ones, we put additional layer of fabric under the neophrene inside so that the sand wouldn't go in between the very top layer and the the neophrene. This also means that the neophrene inside can't be removed/peeled off.
So probably you or the others are referring to the old Joypods and Podpads...???
Another thing - just for example...
Talking about "no metallic" material should be put inside the bag, how do you determine all shooters have done the right thing?... Talking about the rifle stock / forearm must be easily lifted out off the front bag, how do you determine all shooters have done the right thing or already complied with the rules?... Talking about the feet of the bipods, etc, why there are other bipods with sharp "blade-type" feet which would easily form deep grooves to aid tracking? Or with the ones with rails?... Talking about maximum bullet energy down the range, how do you know all shooters have done it correctly?.. .... and so on.... Unless you check ALL the things before the match, that's really ALL DEPEND ON the shooters, on their own honor & responsibility!
That's why I say "it's all about the user".
(I am sorry if my English does not fit, I don't speak English very well).
My point is, everyone can make / effort every thing, AS LONG as it is compliant with the rules. NO cheating etc.
I have tried to produce rests, bipods, bags that work and to be as legal or compliant with the rules as possible.
In case/ when someone use it "improperly?" (not sure with correct term?), it's not my responsibility I believe.
