After having problems getting my normal Small Rifle Primers (CCI 400) I have managed getting some Remington No7 1/2 and some No 6 1/2 primers which of the later 2 are similar to the CCI 400.

Hey mate,
Australia is about to get a large amount of BR4’s very soon. Just talk to your local gunshops to order you some.

Re: Small Rifle primers
Primer Cup Thickness.
This chart is a bit old now but may still hold true.
https://www.accurateshooter.com/technic ... -analysis/
Rem 6 1/2 would appear to be the same cup thickness as CCI 400.
In the early days of 6mmBR here using actions from 308 Target Rifles we got a lot of pierced primers. Changed to BR4s with the thicker cups. and the problem went away.
Right now in NZ there is a lot of RWS around. Must have been a shipment recently. They are now packeaged in 100s.

Re: Small Rifle primers
Thanks for that I need to reload for the SA Kings and haven't enough primers and didn't want to mix them, have enough CCI 400 for a prize Shoot but not for a Kings I think I'll use the 6 1/2.

Re: Small Rifle primers
I know in my 223, I can use the Rem 7 1/2 and CCI BR4 interchangeably with zero difference. The 7 1/2s are a great primer.

Re: Small Rifle primers
I think you are taking a big risk if you line up to the King’s using 6 1/2 primers when you could use 7 1/2.Last club shoot two small rifle primers blanked and the second time the result was a bolt locked up that wouldn’t fire.It took quiet some time to free the firing pin out of the bolt body and clean things up.Usually I use various small rifle magnum primers with excellent results, but with a lot of non magnum sr primers available I gave them a try, with good results for probably more than 200 rounds, then failure. Was my fault as I used a different make of cases which were two grains heavier than the usual ones I had been using.
Re: Small Rifle primers
I'll have to back up Josh and Shadow.
I have used Rem 7-1/2 BR and CCI BR4 in a 308 and no noticeable change in velocity or groups.
I couldn't say which Rem primer is closer to CCI 400's but would have no problem taking the 7-1/2's to a major comp. I used them at the APS comp at Belmont a few months back and they worked fine.
CCI 450's will give you about 20fps more velocity in a 308 though and would possibly change your tune.
Good luck at the Kings Richard and shoot consistent.

Re: Small Rifle primers
Thanks everyone for the replies I should have mentioned that I'm using a .223 with 80g eld's and I'm running close to 3000fps with the CCI 400's.

Yep, I run a .223 with 80.5gn Bergers at 2988fps, with the Rem 7 1/2 or CCI BR4s for reference.
