7 mmm PRC SAAMI Spec

Post by superx10 »

Cartridge and Chamber Designs Newly Accepted by SAAMI
Below is a link to a chamber print of the 7 MM PRC
My Question to F open shooters has it much advantage over the 7 mm SAUM ( If Any) will brass amiability be any better, performance ect , will our local gun smiths get a reamer for this new cartridge? It Has some impressive stats.

Gunsmiths and barrel makes will love you and this cartridge. If I may ask, what "improvement" over the 7mm SAUM are you seeking?

I can't see any positives, barrel life (lack of) would be the main issue, cost and availability of brass another. There are other issues such as a one caliber neck.

The new SAMMI 7PRC is too big. It sits somewhere between the 7SAUM and 7WSM in case capacity. As far as I know Lapua aren't making brass for this at least at the moment..

The 6.5PRC necked up to 7mm in theory looks about perfect and where I'd throw my money. Capacity somewhere between 7SAUM and .284, Lapua already making brass, magnum case head should make primer pockets hold up well, short fat powder column should give good ES numbers and accuracy. I think we will be seeing a lot more on the line in the next few years.

What BATattack said, only issue I see necking up the 6.5 is the neck will be very short.

Short neck with donuts. You always get donuts straight up when you neck up, but not so much when necking down.

Agreed. Would be interesting to try the SLR trick and increase the shoulder angle to give a bit more neck length. At the end of the day most are neck turning and aren't taking virgin brass to a serious match.

Hi Sellsy
mmm Maybe the the cost of the 308 heavies in FTR is concerning a 180 7mm hybrid is looking better with each price rise.

The 6.5 PRC makes an interesting round necking up to 7mm & 30 caliber, am looking at the case as available from Lapua unlike the 7/300 SAUM case
A photo and H2O for comparison

Yes it’s a real problem even getting any sort of Bergers ! For me the lack of Componets has made me step back from the sport a tad , till it fixes itself! Maybe just doing local Opms! ( especially the cost of fuel etc ) sorry a little bit of topic ? Regards Sellsy!
