223 which barrel 1:7T or 1:8T

Post by Ned »

Hi everyone
I would like to know which barrel is best suited for shooting 80grn HPBT.
Has any body done any testing with these barrel twists, if so what were your resaults in FPS and what loads were used.

Thanks Ned

Ned,
We use a 28 inch 1 in 8 twist barrel with 80 gn sierras, and as long as they leave the muzzle @ 2950 fps they are stable out to 1000 m.
We load 24+ grains of 2206H, but you would have to work a load up with your own rifle to be sure it's safe. We don't get very long case life.

stick with the 8 twist it will do the job very well as i have shot 6.5, 7.7 ,and 8 twist barrels at a 1000 and no differance was evident.

Thanks for the input,much welcomed.
I did some testing at my local club, with a chrony last week and managed
2965 FPS, with MAB.223 barel, Lapua Match .223 cases, 25.0grn 2206H.
and 7 1/2 remington primers. I think and hope this load will get be to 1,000 yds.

Any more info on this subject is most welcomed.

All the best, and good grouping.
