New F/TR Rifle Breakin

hi,
about to fire a few nraa palma rounds for sight in this weekend on a new Savage F/TR rifle.
any recommendations about cleaning during the process of breaking in.

Phil,

This topic is a hotly debated one, I am sure it still has no clear answer either way, I've done both shoot from fresh and 1 shot clean 5 shot clean type procedure and see no difference in the end result.

Unless the manufacturer has a strict recommendation, use your own judgement after reading some topics on it.

Just to add to Jason's advice. Make sure you clean the barrel thoroughly with a good solvent like Bore tech eliminator following the instructions before the first shot. Most come from the factory with all sorts of gunk in them. From there on the break in procedure is pretty much up for debate. I personally shoot three rounds to sight it in then clean thoroughly again. Clean after every relay for a few weeks and see how it goes from there. That's it.

All barrels are different and you really don't know what the barrel will require until you start running it in. So let the barrel tell you how it wants to be run in. Fire one and clean with something like eliminator that will show colour with copper. If the first few patches are not very blue and clear it out quick then that barrel will probably not require much, more to two or five shots and repeat. On the other hand if it takes a long time to clean then the process will be slower. Keep doing the single until it starts to not catch as much copper. Just another way
