QRA Queens, August

Post by seb »

Gentlemen,

I was told that one shooter can't / not allowed to shoot both Open and TR -- so I'll just shoot the F/TR.
Only curious to know here, how many shooters (approximately) would be in the F/TR match?
More shooters this year?

The state teams matches precede the Queens and I'd expect the majority to stay on so more than usual. Seven from Victoria.

Seb,

It is not practical to be shooting two disciplines concurrently because of scoring duties and squadding complications, but it should be no problem shooting one discipline in the leadup event and another in the Queens. Mark Fairbairn has been doing this at recent Belmont events and elsewhere.

We'll look forward to seeing you next month.

Unfortunately the Teams both add and subtract numbers for the Queens!
I know a couple of our Team will only attend for the Teams due to time constraints / work commitments etc?
Tassie was similar last year and yet the proportion of F class at their Queens was a higher % than normal!?
Overall the QRA Queens should see the highest attendance for F/TR ever!
+ or - one however depending on whether Mark decides to compete in TR or not??!!

I understand there are 22 Teams competing this year for the various F Class titles.
So that means almost all states are fielding F/TR Teams for the first time as well?
My maths mean at least 6 Teams will compete F/TR = 36 competitors and coaches?
So the Queens roll up will be the most competitive F/TR comp yet in this country?

Bring it on! Looking forward as usual to seeing everyone again plus new faces!
Cheers

 Hmmm, I wonder (for future events obviously) if a proxy scorer could be used for a shooter's scoring duties, much like a caddie will fill out a competition golfers scorecard, but the golfer/player is still the responsible signatory on the card? I hate to see those better halves/partners sitting around on the sidelines just chopping at the bit to get involved somehow. :D

:?: That just leaves the squadding question, but unfortunately I've delegated the remainder of my Saturday evening to swaging. Squadding to the same target would make sense, offset by half the target's squad size; i.e. If squad of 8 shooters on the target, shooter would be designated #1 and #5 on the list...just shooting from the hip so to speak  , but I'm sure one of the more Excel savvy event coordinators out there could program that into an event relatively easily.

I get the impression its not really the first issue event coordinators are trying to address at the moment; and no one really wants to be the first guinea pig for using their annual club/district/State/National OPM. I don't blame them, but at a guess they could artificially boost shooter numbers by 10-15% immediately and 30-40% in the long-term maybe? Someone would have to float the idea first to get some real data.

It will be individual string shooting with both scorer and check scorer behind you Seb. And you can use your total time allocation however you like.

I have competed at a high level at times over the last few years.
At the events where we have to lift ourselves for days without end I have found my limit.
Which means I am looking for a rest! After 7 days of so.
I cannot comprehend trying to compete in two displines in the same competition?

Focus on that which you find the most challenging?
And go forward and measure your results from that rather than having a split result in maybe land!
I maybe wrong ? Find a comp which will allow same? I think maybe Canada? Win both and prove me wrong!

Focus is the key to winning!
I am old and cynical as anyone who knows me will atone!
Currently I am committed to F /TR but I will compete in F/Open in the future.
The bipod is a beast to control but I see the edge belongs to F Open in the final analysis for pure accuracy.

There were a couple of shooters that tried shooting two disciplines in a prize meet here in the west.

Paid double the entry. It didn't last long.
Shooters complained that they were using their first shoot to get a grip on wind conditions, giving them an unfair advantage.

Rule 2.2.3.6 has been in for at least 2 or 3 years so I can't see that there is any grey area on the issue any more.

Thanks again guys.

Re; Open & TR.
I was just thinking to shoot more rounds in the match, and only if possible.
I have two dedicated rifles in Oz, one built for F/TR, one other is my "multi-purpose" dual calibers gun in 6 PPC & .284win which I can use it for short range and Flyshoot or long range BR. I would like to try this rifle for F-Open, time etc allow...someday.

Btw, my intend is not to win something. I shoot mostly for fun...to learn, and to see if I am progressing...and to meet good friends.
I shoot no more than 800 (eight hundred) rounds total in one year, that is locally + overseas match combined. (It could be very strange to you all here, but this is true/the fact. I do not shoot much in Indonesia due to my workload).
If I win something next August...that must be just a good/pure luck.

ATB,
seb.
