Yep, good effort on the write up.

Oh yeah, good effort on the shooting as well. =D> =D>

I wish there were more of these long range events held. Everyone seems to enjoy them and looks forward to the next one.

Congratulations on a great win, Adam.
It seems that the conditions and the competition kept a classy field on their toes, so you really earned your First Place.
Well done too, to the "travellers", who made it over from interstate and kept the locals honest.
I really only get to shoot up 1000 yards , and even that is only on infrequent trips to Belmont, so I am just in awe of the scores that you guys just managed at serious long range =D> =D>
Well done to all.
And a particular THANK YOU to Adam for his Reprts throughout the event. You did a great job.

Thanks guys!

As far as equipment I believe everyone bar Greg (using a 284) were running 7 SAUM. . . . . . No wonder we can't find any brass!

its a good caliber but i thought we would see a bit more variety and even a .30 or 2.

I had my saum's backed off fairly well to get used to running them at QLD and Canada friendly velocity. Tim did a lot of testing and was running hotter and getting some amazing accuracy during final development.

I've heard some of the range results from the teams matches and last report SA was in front but there was only a handful of points in it. Lower light can so easily give you room to make up a gap or put another nail in to coffin depending on how you look at it.

PS most of the thanks should go to Tim I just did the cut and paste when I had time :D

I have a bolt with mag face, 30 cal saum brass and 7mm barrels, so you have made my mind up.
Thanks for the report

South Australia (752.24) took out the Long Range F Class teams event by 13 points from Victoria (739.21) with NSW third on (738.19). The SA boys used 3x 280 AI's and a 284 8)

Are you serious Cam?!??? Surly not?

If I was to start developing a new caliber optimized for QLD and Canada I would be looking at couple of 280ai's set up for different brass.

One reamer would be designed and used in a fire form barrel having a longer neck to allow the forming of 30-06, 25-06 or 270 brass and the second reamer would be used in match barrels and designed to be shorter than a standard 280ai to be correct for the the fire formed brass.

Seeing how well the team guys over here are doing with the 280ai I think it's basically perfect capacity for the 2950-2980 node and will digest 2209 comfortably while the 7 Saum is running a bit below it's optimum and a touch too big for 2209.

Adam, I am serious. I have no intentions for Canada.
If RWS brass was readily available I would be on the 280ai.
There's more to QLD than Belmont so that issue doesn't worry me.
My "go to" will still be 284 Shehane. It is the most consistently accurate large cartridge I have used.
I can't let my magnum bolt go rusty :D

Not all bad Adam. At this stage I have no desire to compete in Canada. Still getting over Raton maybe :?:
If we did decide to go to Canada it would be as a support role from me anyway. I would love to help out a fresh F Open team to help win that trophy again.
It is still a long way off for me anyway. What is happening in OZ at the moment is great with regard to the next FCWC. Unknowningly we are all helping to raise that bar by continuous development at club, state and national level.
It is quite amazing how much improvement I have seen since 2-3 years ago. Now it is not uncommon to see Rod, Dave Mc, Marty etc, etc, drop only 2 - 3 points over a 3 day Queens. More names are going to be up there that is certain.
Don't write me off Adam, the fire might come back, but, you can be rest assured, it won't be an easy team to make, which is the way it should be.

Cheers
Cam :D
