Seddo,
Those errors look like the results that my Shooting Chrony achieved on a really, really good day. :lol:
Thank God they invented MagnetoSpeed !

This is March. Speculation of accuracy and speeds were last seen in November. Will there be a follow up? even if it just says that they were wasting your time and not to bother?

I would like to know how they went as well as I have a 1in7" twist as well and there is little to no information on the 90 grains loads out there :?:

Guys,

Unfortunately it's been a lack of time that has kept me from playing with this rifle. I intense to use it at rosedale on a few weeks so i behind the 8 ball now. With any luck I will be able to give it a run next weekend at 300y and if it goes well take it to rosedale the following week.

I finally got some time to test the 90grainers today but the condition were less than perfect with 3-6mph winds.

This is the best group i fired at 300y, it was 25.8gr 2208 and a 90gr SMK. With my long throat this isnt a compressed load. The 3 shot group (excluding the oops) is around .8" with 0.75" vertical so its promising.

The shot out the bottom right was when i touched on off too early so i fired a 4th shot which i had laoded for the chrono so i didn't get a velocity over the magneto today but going by the session with my old chrono it woudl be just over 2800fos. I fired 4 different loads with 0.2gr jumps, at 25.6 the group had a little more elevation than the above but not much and the 25.4 and 26gr groups had opened up. The next step will be to shoot some 10 shot groups on full size targets and see what happens, hopefully early in the morning when the wind isnt there too.

My thoughts are: find a speed your happy with then adjust seating depth for group size. You are sort of doing a ladder test but just trying to find a good grouping load. .2 increments would be good for a ladder test otherwise you will be doing this type of testing for a long time.

Looks good Seddo. Vertical can be a pain though. Have you read through Eric Cortina's thread on developing a 1000 yd load at 100 yds on the accurate shooter site? Some interesting ideas there that I am running through with the 6.5 X 47.
I reckon that will be a very handy F/TR rifle.

Geoff,
I only group tested the top 4 loads i chrono'ed as they had the velocity i was going to be happy with. I will fired 4 more groups and then start playing with OAL.

Steve,
I haven't read that, i will have a look.

Hi Seddo and others;
I have been experimenting with 90gr Berger projectiles, 2208 (25-25.4 gr) via a 223AI with Krieger 1:6.5 twist, 30" barrel. Marginal success; 2-3 round bug-holes, but wandering point of impact across a ten shot group. No deleterious pressure signs: base to ogive 77.5mm which is some 8thou jump and yeh a custom reamed chamber. Interestingly, accuracy from standard 223 cases (fire-forming) and also the AI variant both with 25gr '08, and Sierra 80gr pills is outstanding at 300m off rifle! I should say; this is a switch-barrel plaything, used when practicing.
