F/TR... Really... Who is interested?

F/TR is the international full bore class for .308 and .223, currently being trialled around Australia.

Cairns Rifle Club voted unanimously at a general meeting on the weekend to support FTR. We have followed Wurgabups lead and intend to hold a subclass of Fopen at the OPM in May. We will also hold the same subclass on weekend club shoots. We anticipate 5-10 competitors in this class every weekend at club level.

Of particular debate now is the length of a match. FTR (and internatiional Fopen)matches can be up to 25 shots. It would certainly be worth knowing how your rifle performs after 25 shots before going into an international competition. One proposed solution is to have a 15 shot match followed immediately by a 10.

Cheers,
Dave

=D> here it is. I will pass on your thanks to the club members but please don't thank me.

What I will say is there was 100% support for this in our club (providing F standard was also kept)

So back to the first question - WHO CARES??? obviously everyone up here!! Don't you think our international representatives deserve the right to train fully under the conditions they will face?

I will thank you, as I thank everyone that supports F/TR.

Without support of clubs and individuals, F/TR would not be getting off the ground in Australia.

So shut up and accept it!

Who cares? We'll see.

The North Arm Rifle Club is holding a general meeting this weekend. I will be moving a motion to have F/TR accepted as a FO subclass at our club shoots.

Im a new F-Class shooter, I currently shoot under F-Std but will gladly goto F/TR if it was adopted as it gives more option to shooters and guys like me who dont have 30" plus barrels and are running more hybrid rifles (mines a practical/tactical/LR rig) I have a 26" barrel and my projie of choice is 155gr Lapua Scenars and 175gr SMKs.

Im also 21 years old and I'm sorry guys but if you want to keep the sport going and GROWING in Australia then I think we need to adopt F/TR and maybe even intergrate F-Std and F/TR as one class as then we would be the same as the rest of the world and also a larger choice of projies will let more people compete. I know guys who dont compete in F-Std for the simple fact that you are limited to three projies which are out classed in the 155gr range by projies like the Lapua scenar and alike and you cant use other very very popular LR projies like 175gr SMKs, Berger VLDs etc.

Many people who want to start in long range shooting buy off the shelf precision rifles like the Remington 700 Police, Tikka Varmint, Howa Varmint, Savage 10FCP, etc as these rifles all shoot great out of the box and all cost around 1500 - 2000 where as a banard action costs $1800 by itself so building a custom target rifle for one discipline isnt a cost effective measure. My rifle gets used for 400m Fly, LR shooting in the bush, F-Std/F-Open, the new practical rifle discipline thats gaining and general shooting. Its harder to use a dedicated rifle for many different roles compared to one fo these rifles and which you can wet your feet and get started competing and learn lots and just have fun. Thats why I shoot, to have FUN!!!

If a F/TR gets the go ahead, I will be swapping across and so will others like myself who have such rifles. I know of maybe 5 or more guys who would probably swap over too. If we want this sport to grow then Im sorry but we have to think outside the box and have shooting disciplines that attract shooters to the mound.

If F-Std is supposed to help keep the costs down then look at guys with Banards, Stolle's who all shoot F-Std as those rifles cost lots to build and the only cheap part is the projie. Many people would rather spend a few bux more on a box of projies and have their stock rifles be competive then go out n spend a grand or so in one hit for a new barrel and then means that they wont be able to use this rifle for other roles. I dont wanna take a nice 30" barreled rifle bush, but I'll take my current 308.

Sorry if people dont agree with me but im just saying this from the PoV of young shooters like me.

Dave J, Thank you. Hopefully you will be back in here next week with some good news. :)

It is great to hear that one by one the clubs are looking at taking on F/TR. The ball is now rolling.

I will say to all those approaching their club committee. If you have not raised the topic at the club before, make sure you go prepared. First question is always "What is F/TR?" followed by "Why do you now want 3 disciplines of F Class?"

Shaun, I don't think we have crossed paths yet?

I have noticed over just the last couple of weeks. There are a lot of West Aussies waiting for F/TR to come in.
You are correct, it will create new membership, which is what our sport desperately needs.

Hahahaha. Yeah.

I was the crazy dude who wanted to put my Omark into a Tube stock :)

How many people do you think would support F/TR here in WA??

Personally I think that F/TR and F-Std should merge but that wont happen for a while. I certainly would like the optitunity to shoot for australia.

I was at Swanbourne last weekend, and had 5 people come up in the bar and ask if F/TR had been approved yet. They are keen to take it up, and said they also have friends waiting.

The numbers are here to get us started.

Once the rules get approved, my next step will be to approach WARA to have F/TR scores recorded as such, in the Red Book. (Easier said than done)

I tagged you on FB. go and read.

Yeah I know.

I hope they include it and then I'll swap over to shooting F/TR. It will save me money as I wont need to run two different loads (One for F-Std and other for general LR work). I reckon another bloke in my club may swap as well as he has a Win M70 308 based LR rig.
