Ned, you're another one who always has an excuse why he doesn't shoot too many PMs. That's exactly why FO is having trouble getting clubs to put on FO at their PMs here in Victoria, at least.

I will chuck in my 2 cents worth,

I am new to the sport of shooting, I got my Licence 12 months ago and in that time have made a substantial investment, I.e Farley rest and Barnard actioned 308, if f/STD was to be "transformed" I would have to say I would be rather pis&ed off. I say this because f/tr has been around alittle while now so I can't figure why it has taken this long for you lot to decide it's now a good thing. Hey at the end of the day I would have a dabble but not at the expense of the gear I already have. I would buy another rig. I love f/STD and see no reason for it to change. There may be a couple of People who travel overseas and I wish them the best of luck, but not at the cost of what we have now, a successful platform that works. If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the LAST time.

The 3 disciplines will run together! This is not an issue. Stop making it one!

As for you other guys...take your bickering elsewhere!

This is not an us and them thread. We are all F Class!

Why can't we all work together!

I have also forgotten my manners.

I would like to welcome Darrell, Warren and Jannie to OZFClass.

Sorry guys, I come across you in other forums, I forgot you were new in here. 8)

john,
the later it gets at night, the more incorrect you seem to get, or at least the less i comprehend your writings.
i read alan and richard as defending fstd.
as usual you also seem to get some sort of issue developing between fo & fstd, the later it gets the more it gets.
i am really starting to feel that you see open in a bad light, and as the opposite of a panacea as opposed to it being beneficial for us all to work together and respect each other.
this website in general has matured for the better of latter years, but a minority still act as though it is as it was when it was less than ideal.

Ok you have started a topical and interesting thread and attracted all the usual suspects, now what?

What is your vision for the future of F T/R in Oz and how will you go about getting it started in WA. I think you will find most people follow a leader and your talking the talk, so how do you plan to walk the walk?

I for one am interested to see how you are planning to go about introducing it and I'm hoping to learn something in the process.

Over to you Linda, let me make it clear, you have my best wishes and full attention.

What we need to do is get a person from each state and territory interested in the future of all scoped rifle disciplines. Together we can form a focus group to discuss how we move all scoped rifle disciplines forward in Australia.

Suggestion: PM me your name or names of others whom may be interested.

I agree with most of that, I think.

G'day all,
I will apologise to all forum members for my comments to John E earlier, they were uncalled for and given our recent history probably inflammatory. However I've been on the end of some of John's (and others) comments before from asking questions that, at the time, were probably just naive. However, I personally think it might be because I come from a Benchrest background, not mainstream Full Bore, has labelled me as an outsider, possible trouble maker and heretic!

Also John, FWIW, I'm a shift worker and having 3 weekends off out of every 8 rostered makes it very hard to attend to family matters, let alone ANY OPM's or BR matches for that matter. I'm grateful just to go shooting!

For some forum members attacking the person is easier (and more cowardly?) than having a reasonable debate on an issue. Some prefer to denigrate the views of newer forum members, regardless of the validity of their points or what they may bring to the table.

It is a pity that when new comers offer a valid alternative point of view that it is not viewed objectively or even used as an opportunity to educate the newer forum members in the traditions of FB shooting in Australia, but they simply attack the "outsiders" credibility that apparently threatens the current status quo in F class.

It is a great shame that opinions on this forum can be summarily dismissed by a few without any proper and thorough debate. It should be remembered that all of these new comers ARE the future of the sport and should be shown some respect. Especially if the sport is to grow. This is not creative debate. It is completely disrespectful and a abuse of position and hardly promoting this great sport. I know I have nothing to loose, but sadly perhaps they feel they do.

Food for thought

I direct this question to the international people on this forum-- Namely Darrel, Warren or Jannie.

I have sought answers to various questions regarding F/TR but unfortunately very little is known about it in Aus.
My questions concern the origin of F/TR ( as distinct from F - Farkey ) and how the specifications of Rifle ( eg weight ) and ammunition came about.
I would particularly like to know how the weight of 8.25 kg was decided upon.
When the weight of an FS rifle was set it was based upon the current weight of a TR which at that time was 6.5 kg and built up from there.
What was the basis of the F/TR rifle weight? and what does the current " TR " designation refer to?
Thanks,
Barry

Why not start a new thread called The History of F T/R? Alan, perhaps you could help Barry out with a new thread!

Linda, its pretty obvious that the white noise on this thread is really getting too loud.

We have two options open to us to allow those people with a genuine interest in F T/R to continue talking real world options and solutions.

1. Dont respond to the white noise element and just answer and respond to constructive and positive discussion.

2. Talk to Alan about making this a private thread and those with something to contribute can be a part of it.

I have some ideas but am not looking to go outside of the NRAA to achieve them. I want people to come over to F T/R because its the international code not because we offer them a new ICFRA Australian Rifle Association.

I am all for freedom of speech Ian. This is why I choose to live in Australia.

I am also confident this thread will stay on track. At this point I have no intention of moving it to a private room. This is a problem we all have to solve, hiding it away will only create it's own set of issues.

You asked me where I would start, I will start with a focus group where we can discuss positively the best way to move F/TR and all other scoped rifle disciplines forward. Having one person from each state, means everyone will be kept informed.
I have NSW and WA covered at this point.

We have one chance to make this happen, so we need to be sensible about it.

Barry,

I am trying to get in touch with a very knowledgeable gent to explain the reasoning in weight, etc. He has a long history with ICFRA and should have some answers.

I DO know that the "TR" in F-T/R means Target Rifle.

I am guessing here, but I am betting the extra 2 kilo was to allow for a scope and bipod. Just guessing though..
Cheers!
