TUNERS

Post by Matt P »

To those that have tried or are using tuners, what are the pros and cons ?
I have read alot on various sites and some love em and some loath em, I understand that they can and do change group size but is it any different/ easier than changing powder charge, seating depth etc. Once "tuned" how long does it last and does temp, altitude etc change the "tune" and if so does it change any more or less than without a tuner ???

Thanks

Might want to speak to Barry Davies at daviestriggers.com.au as he sells them and a few of his family members use them.
I am keen to try them, but wonder if other shooters will complain about using one.

I haven't heard of any complaints about them being used recently (they are legal in FB and both F Classes). The jury is still out on how effective they are. You hear of some very spectacular successes, but then occasionally those same people stop using them. There is little doubt that they can change the size of your groups, but as Matt P suspects, I've heard that you need different settings for different conditions. Similar to tuning by varying the powder charge I guess.

They do work for me and have in the past ,i havent got one yet on my current lawton barrel but wished i had as i had to chase a load it works very well as it is at the moment, it is good to go out and tune one load at the velocity you want,Geoff Grenfell makes a good tuner.

tuners

Post by balcom »

Hi All,
I can give you a answer to the question on the group sizes, before the rule on tuners was passed some people were using them illegally and shot themselves into state teams, when I was CRO in Brisbane a few years ago at the teams event they were told to take them off, I wont say who they were but after removing them they shot well below thier usual self.( one even complained in the Magazine, though they were legal).
There are ways to tune your rifle, ammo, front sight or tuner ring, they all work.
