Another point but related to all of the above:-
It relates to a question that is often asked - namely "WHAT DOES THE NRAA DO FOR ME AND WHY SHOULD I PAY THEIR FEE?"
The NRAA have tried to answer this and have put some points up on their web site.
Have a look here:-

Re: What is the VRA doing?
I was at a range today and a number of people came up to me saying they plan on going to our 2 day OPM in August in SA but were worried that their membership in Vic might exclude them, we had 15 shoot with us last year nearly 25% of our entry it would hit us hard if they couldn't come.

The simple fact is that WE ALL NEED TO HAVE MEMBERSHIP OF THE NRAA in one form or another.

For what?
Does the farmer who wants to sight in his rifle at the range need it?
The guys who just want to have the occasional shoot to test/hone skills?
The father and son looking to get out and shoot some targets?
certainly not..
What about those who are just happy to club shoot? Do they need the NRAA insurance and SSR's?
From what i understand, all the above will be offered a cheaper membership - still covered by insurance etc..
These people are the "future". There has been mention $87.50 isn't "much"... Tell that to the countless members complaining when brass/powder/projectiles goes up in price... And don't get me started on "the last time i bought primers they were $50 per thousand" statements.. It seems the current crop of NRAA members have "Selective CPI increase acceptance syndrome"
The hard fact is - for as much as the "select few" punt $1,500 on barrels and run custom builds, The new wave coming through are running hunting rifles and factory ammo (This is their starting point). They may progress to upgraded gear, they may not - but they are the one's that will keep numbers coming into the sport. These are also the one's with family's and mortgages.. The sport can't continue to rely on the "older/retired etc"..
SSAA is destroying the NRAA in member numbers, the more casual/relaxed environment needs to be entertained. Ideally, the new membership structure would increase club member numbers (bringing club revenue?) and you would see higher numbers at club shoots, but those participating would vary week to week...

Re: What is the VRA doing?
Blade, wouldn’t a compromise be the best solution? One where the fee structure is made fairer, where the huge (mostly hidden) costs of a breakaway from the NRAA are avoided, and all tiers of governance can work together to get on with the more important job of attracting new membership?
Re: What is the VRA doing?
If you peruse the minutes from the NRAA meetings, you will see a new structure was mentioned multiple times.. The NRAA seemed to want no part of it. Now it seems the VRA has done something "productive" for its current members, and something to move the sport "forwards"..AlanF wrote: Tue Jun 10, 2025 12:47 pm Blade, wouldn’t a compromise be the best solution? Looks like the NRAA now see's it's going to "Miss out" on funds and have panicked.

Ok I didn't realise that. If it is realistically doable, then they need to give it serious consideration.Blade wrote: Tue Jun 10, 2025 1:21 pmIf you peruse the minutes from the NRAA meetings, you will see a new structure was mentioned multiple times. The NRAA seemed to want no part of it.

Re: What is the VRA doing?
I spoke to our state association.. Anyone can do that....Peter Hulett wrote: Tue Jun 10, 2025 10:15 pm Blade, you have accesscto the NRAA minutes? Please explain.
This was also in the VRA response as posted on the VRA website -
"
So the NRAA was aware - and certainly not interested. The topic of reviewing our offerings was brought up at the members forum in November
and on several occasions with the NRAA board.
However, after receiving what was perceived as a hostile response from the NRAA, the VRA decided
not to consult with the NRAA. After careful consideration, this decision was made
based upon previous disinterest of the NRAA to address earlier members’ feedback and
the abovementioned negative response
It also mentions other states are looking at similar options..
