Hi, is there any caliber restrictions on sporter open ie say, 6* 47, 6mm AI, 6 dasher, ect .
Thanks in advanced for informed comments.
Sportrer, allowable calibers

Re: Sportrer, allowable calibers
Essentially any chambering is allowed, keeping in mind:
- In Production Class (PC) it must be a factory barrel and chambering
- Production Class Open (PCO) allows any chambering but it is subject to range restrictions (generally up to 8mm with some ranges also having terminal energy limits)
So leave the 338 Lapua and 50BMG in the safe

If intending to build the Holy Grail of Sporter rifles, a 22 Creed running 90gn Atips will destroy all ballistically.superx10 wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:28 pm Hi, is there any caliber restrictions on sporter open ie say, 6* 47, 6mm AI, 6 dasher, ect .

Don't just take my word for it, run multiple sims and you will see how efficient it is!
However, barrel life need not be spoken of

What happens when that "Factory Barrel" needs replacing?
The likely hood of anyone here in OZstralia getting their hands on one is very slim I imagine...
It was my understanding that a rifle in any factory caliber, not a Wild Cat, was acceptable and certainly I have seen many using those factory rifles in aftermarket stocks...
I know of at least one shooter that is on his second barrel and it is definitely NOT from the manufacture's factory.
I don't have a horse in this race but it would seem to be a very limiting factor if such rules of "Factory Equipment Only" were strictly applied...

Only option would be to send the rifle back and get it rebarreled back to OEM spec (like you said). That friend of yours would be required to shoot in PCO. Regardless of how close that aftermarket barrel resembles the original - Whether we agree with that or not.

Re: Sportrer, allowable calibers
Sure does make things tough... I suppose in the end it is up to @ individual club as to how strictly
these rules are enforced..

Re: Sportrer, allowable calibers
I dunno, much of a muchness.
If you’ve managed to shoot out a barrel then you’ll do well enough in PCO in any case (re barrel to 27” and push for 7.5kg max weight).
If you really really wanna stay in PC you could always just buy another factory rifle - which wouldn’t cost much more than re-barrelling in any case.

I am going to go with 6x47 and rechamber my 308, due to recoil related health issues
