There's a mindset shift occurring within the FullBore community.
The standard Fullbore disciplines take skill, no question. But it's incredibly niche and in a general sense, the skills sets and equipment aren't transferrable outside their specific disciplines.
There's a reason that you don't see deer hunters taking 6kgs of rests on stalks, or the Military running 30" of 1.25" straight taper barrel into operations (except the .50cal). It's just not practical. This niche application, the slow pace, the dated equipment and limited feature sets makes typical FullBore disciplines largely unappealing. You do have to commit a considerable amount of time and money to a discipline that just does not have a broad appeal. Because of it's stagnation as well, it's stuck in the early 2000s with knowledge.
This is where Sporting rifle is 100% winning. The same rifle you take deer hunting can come to sporting rifle and make it's way to PSR. It is a practical skill set that is immediately transferrable and in fact, makes you better in your other disciplines. The cost of entry is as expensive as you choose, and people that like pop culture, or modern firearms types are free to persue those and still have a competition they can compete in (on ranges that the Fullbore-a-saurs accept change of course).
We have brakes, mags, tac rails, switch barrels, mil scopes, kestrels.
Every gun from the lowly Howa to the AI, Barrett MRAD and Desert Tech.
It's open to anyone and everyone and we have a really really positive and supportive community developing with a lot of current era skill and knowledge.
It's good to see people seeing something new and seeing the value and not only adopting it for their range, but actively participating in it and I hope that attitude continues to permeate through the sport.
