Sporter Hunter Rear Bag

I'm about to start playing with SH and I am looking for a rear bag however after looking in all the usual places the options seem limited......everything I've found to date has ears.

So what commercially produced bags are being used for SH and where are they to be found.

I had been using a rice filled Caldwell front rest as a front or rear bag for the past 20 or more years when hunting. Light enough to clip onto a backpack. I was using it recently at a club shoot in sporting hunter and was told I was breaking the "rules"

Ordered one of the prs bags from ATP. Freight was super fast as usual and tried it out last weekend. Sit it on the ground and karate chop it and it has the same "ears" as the old bag! I added an extra cup full of teddy bear beads from spotlight to firm it up a bit.

Another quality brand that looked good apparently doesn't have a zip to allow filling so I gave it a miss.

New bag. Good in that you can sit it on side or on its end if you need more height. I found I was wrapping the strap around my hand to puff it up rather than squeezing.

I don't compete in S/H but with good projectiles in short supply I can use up some of the leftovers and still have a shoot at our club.

Look at low viz gear. He has some good bags, I have been using the wedge bag

How are you cheating by using a bag with ears. SSRs only state that a rear bag may be used. It doesn't say anything about what type of bag.

Scott there are a lot of "views" on S/H rules over the past year or so as well as a few draft documents floating around with possible changes to the class. Some clubs have added their own spin on the rules as well. As the current SSR's stand I was not outside the rules. But the comment was made.

One of the documents I viewed recently did mention the bag with ears not being approved and I believe the intent was to prevent the use of the "bigfoot" type bags in the class. However the soft material on my old bag could hardly be compared with one of those rests. I challenge any F-Open (edit: or FTR) shooter to use it at a comp! It cost less than 30$ about 25 years ago!

I wasn't at a comp so I doesn't matter. I was mainly showing what I found for a new bag and letting blindbat know my experience with ears after he said all he could find had ears..

On a lighter note I would kindly donate it to the FTR team heading to Sth Africa should they need a backup! It could be worth a few extra points...

My go to "hunter class" type rear bag is the AG Pint Size GameChanger but heaps of guys love the rectangular style rear bag as mentioned above and here;

PS. do not fill bags with rice - when it gets wet you'll have dramas. Many options from river sand(heavy), to plastic pellets, kitty litter or tumble media

This is one of those stupid grey areas. By the SSRs, you can run whatever you like. I’ll be using a SEB Bigfoot until such time I’m told otherwise, after the NRAA squashed the proposal to refine the rules. Then I’ll use the above mentioned Ufen-whatever Cookie Dough bag (I currently use one of these for PSR). The proposed rules were going to change to a simple squeeze bag, no ears, no solid sides or solid base, easily deformable, which is probably what it should be.

+1 for poly pellets, although if you’re using it exclusively for Sporter Hunter and weight doesn’t matter, sand/garnet is always a good go-to
