nosler 80gn projectiles

just been reading the latest target rifle & i see we are allowed to use noslers

what is the reasoning behind??

supply problems with the sierra,s ??

& lastly, what are they like , i notice they is a bit cheaper

ozfarm, i believe the reason is the shortage of sierras. i know people who have had sierras on order for several months now. asfor where to buy the noslers, i am led to believe that they will be readily available from your state rifle association. otherwise sara and vra are usually good stockists of required products. cheers mate and good shooting.

As a point of interest has anyone used them and with what results,the few i had given to me measured slightley smaller i od, but i have not shot them,?.

yes, the 80g Nosler is now approved for 223 which is the same profile and BC as the Sierra product.

Regardless of improved supply of Sierra product, the Nosler product will continue to be approved for use.

I do know that you can get the 80 gr noslers from the VRA shop in Vic at either $160.00 for 500 and also from the Shooter wholesale wharehouse (online at http://www.shooters.com.au/Default.asp?c=34946) for $14.00 per 100

why weren't the Nosler 69's also approved as well??
if the 80's are allowed as replacement for the sierra 80's why not for the 69 HPBT's as well??

The Nosler 80's aren't replacing the Sierra 80's, you can use either. According to our annual report out yesterday, we sold 266,500 of Sierra 80g and 35,000 of Siera 69g. That represents about 8 boxes of 500 per year per Member or one box per month per Member.

However, it's a valid point and I'II raise the matter at tomorrow's Board meeting. tks James

couple of reasons I asked

It keeps things consistant you can use either noslers or sierras

(though I dont know where the Nosler 77's or the Hornady's fit in here?)


Also there are a lot more 1:9 twist .223's about now from factory that can use the 69's but not the 80's
if the persons 1:9 rifle shoots the Sierra like a POS if it's the only approved projectile it might stop them from even trying/having a go at competing but if there is more than one option it give a better chance that they will find something that works- and if it works there is more chance of getting them on the shooting line.
