R.A.D. systems

#1 Postby Old Trev-39 » Fri Mar 03, 2023 12:51 pm

Has anyone had experience with any of the hydraulic type of recoil dampeners? Owing to a shoulder problem I am looking for something to reduce felt recoil on it. From what I have read they seem to work, but I would like to hear of first hand experiences before I fork out the dollars, as they are not cheap.
Thanks,
Trevor.

I have 3 F-Open rifles and they all have RAD systems on them. I went with one based on advice when I chambered up a 300wsm - it made a noticeable difference in felt recoil - there's definitely less 'sting' felt on your shoulder and I had no issue using the 300wsm over a 2-3 three day shoot. My current calibres which have RADs on them are a 6GT, which really isn't necessary but it just so happens I ordered my McMillan Kestros ZR with one, and I no longer use the 300wsm due to energy limit changes at Malabar. The other two are 284 Shehane and 7-6.5 PRC-KW - recoil under both are very easy to manage and enjoyable to shoot.

The RADs are not cheap but I feel well worth it - I have two new stocks coming to life over the next couple of months and both will have RADs fitted.

Hi Willow,
Where did you get your R.A.D. systems from? One I looked at from U.S.A. said could not be exported. Can get one from the U.K. Would prefer to buy in Australia if possible.
Cheers,
Trevor.

I spoke with Matt P / LRP this afternoon about these actually, and placed an order with him for one.
He usually orders a few at a time. Perhaps speak with him directly

Jez

My McMillan Kestros stocks were specifically ordered with RADs. The one on my Cerus XR stock I specifically ordered from Hart shooting who make the RAD - no issue with getting it shipped to Australia. The new ones I am getting is through Matt P, but he ordered half a dozen at the time, so it just made sense.

I read an article they said aound 450gm complete with rubber etc , but the stock will need shortening and hollowed out so that will cancel some weight from the unit itself , looks well made and if it reduces fatigue why not ?
