6BRX LOAD DATA

#1 Postby BD28 » Tue Oct 11, 2022 7:19 pm

Hey guys,

I will be breaking in my benchrest rifle in the next week then pushing on with load development. specs will be as follows

30" Bartlein
107 Sierra Matchking
2209 powder

As there is next to no published data from any of the powder or projectile manufacturers that I can find... What is everyone running with this combo?

I am of course aware that I will be doing my own tests and working up to any max loads. But mostly want to get a ballpark for where everyone is with this powder and projectile weight.

I'm looking to avoid upper nodes with high pressure as ive sunk many hours into neck turning and brass prep and dont feel like blowing pockets in 2 firings. Speed is not a factor but 2900+ would be nice.

Thanks in advance

In the USA Hogdon market ADI powder under their own brand names:

ADI 2209 => H4350
ADI 2208 => Varget

If you search for "6BRX H4350" and "6BRX Varget" you will turn up links like:

https://precisionrifleblog.com/2019/09/ ... load-data/

Where all 11 shooters using 6BRX were using Varget (2208). The loads ranged from 30.7 to 32.5 with bullet weights 105-115

Here is some commentary about H4350 (2209) with 35.x being the ballpark for 105s.

As always, start low and work up.

Thanks Tachyon!

Quickload seems to say 09 in anything shorter than about 28.5" will leave unburnt powder, not surprised the PRS crowd are opting for 2208/varget in a 26" barrel. I will definitely try both and see what works best! thanks for the info :)

I'd be starting with mid 30s of 2208 and working up. My 6BR was 30.4 of 2208 with a 105gr Berger. Can't remember how much bigger the BRX is but it would be similar to the dasher. I've never run heavier than 70gr in my Dasher, so my load data is no good for you.

I know in WA a very accurate 6brx custom gun , 2209 33-35gn ,108gn -2900-2950 , 28” 7.5tw , cci450 srp

If I show the group at 500 you wouldn’t believe me

6BRX load that works in every BRX barrel I've had spun up;
Fformed Lapua brass, 31.5gn 2208, CCI 450s
MV usually 2888-2925fps from 26inch Bartlein and Proof 1-7 or 1-7.5twist barrels
105Hybrids(my choice) or 107SMK both love this recipe.

Another powder node commonly seen is 31.2gn ADI2208
Note- if you use 108ELD-Ms lower the charge

The BRX shoots better than I can.

As usual, load at your own risk, blah blah blah

The 6BRX is similar to the 6Dasher, both a 6BR case blown forward a hundred thou appx.
but is NOT similar in case capacity/seen charge pressures due to the 30 versus 40 degree shoulder (in my experience).

excellent reference here
https://www.6mmbr.com/6BRImproved01.html

Easy comparison in my head is if you use all the same components, Lap brass/105Hybrid/ADI2208, then you will see instant results in Load Development with;
6BR, 30.0-30.5gn 2208
6BRX, 31.0-31.5gn
6Dasher, 32.0-32.5

Refine seating depth from there and your shooting bugholes.

And be careful stating "I'd start with mid 30's of 2208" (in a 6BRX)
Many will know what you mean but a newbie may go load "mid 30's", ie. 35gn of ADI2208/Varget in a 6BRX.
If you want to, go nuts, just let me know so I can walk away from firing line first ; )
