Does anyone have a recommended powder to start with running 7 SAUM 180gr VLD I have 2209, 2213sc and 2225 at the moment? And min max charges.
I can’t seem to find load data for this projectile yet.
29.5” spout
TIA

Sam, I won't get into exact loads but, you don't mention barrel twist but mention 180gr VLD so I use 2217 and 2209, I believe some have tried 2213sc.
2217; depending on the powder batch you have, start @ 60.5 and work up.
2209: same deal as above, start @ 54.5gr and work up. Also depends on your range energy limits. I have been known to use 2225 for running in a barrel as it's bit cooler burning.

Thanks for that mate. I have plenty of 2225 and 2209 but I might try and get my hands on some 2217. I'm running a 1-8 twist.

Ok. 2225 might be a bit slow and u may not get enough 2225 in a SAUM case to be effective. I don't use 2209 in a brand new barrel. Only after the barrel and brass are run in/hardened up. For the 8T try sierra 183's.

Re: 7 SAUM powder selection
No sorry have not chronoed it but i reckon about 2850-2900. My last barrel was badly burnt out with 2209 and looked like a dry creek bed through the scope. I wanted this one to last a bit longer. I reckon you can go up a couple of grains if you feel the need.... thats what quickload says and i'm getting no pressure signs from my 8 twist.
