#1 Postby Ryangunton1 » Tue Jan 28, 2020 7:37 am

Hi all I was up at my local range on the weekend having a look and like the idea off getting in to f-class open my question is does any one shoot long range with the howa 1500 bravo in 6.5 creedmoor . I will only have a very limited budget to start off so looking for recommendations on a stock rifle thank you

Great to see a new shooter , get ready for all the advice in the world what to or not to get, my advice to new shooters is don't buy anything for a while ,use a club gun where possible, dont take anything to seriously but most of all be safe and enjoy shooting

Thanks Johno for the reply the club I will be joining in is only very small and I don’t think that have club guns at the moment I am shooting a braked 300wsm as my hunting gun but looking at the price off the howa’s I might be able to get the best off both worlds in a way

I actually recommended that exact rifle to a new shooter before Christmas, 26” barrel, good stock, ai compliant magazine for prs, cheaper than the components bought separately, and I believe the creedmoor is the best option as excellent match grade ammo very cheap, try American gunner at $229 for 200 rounds

Hi mate, in terms of your post YES. The Howa in 6.5 CM with the heavy 26 inch barrel will allow you to shoot F Class. It will be able to shoot in F Open and in Sporter/Hunter Class if your club is running that discipline. I have one of those very same rifle myself that I sometimes play with. I reload so I'm able to get a little more out of it than from factory ammo. There is plenty of options available for factory ammo for the CM these days so go for it. At a price point these are probably one of the best value for money rifles you could purchase. I suggest you try handling the stock you are wishing to purchase first. This will have a lot of influence on rifle handling on the mound. What club are you shooting with?

I am looking at joining the strahan gun club in Tasmania. I do all my own loading for my hunting guns it is nice to hear the howa will do the job just don’t want to go all out at the start

1000 yards is no worries, it just comes down to precision expectations ie how small a target are you wanting to hit, you will have a good chance of excellent results from Howa, but it won’t in all probability match a custom rig every day, by the time you wear out the barrel you should have developed reloading and wind reading skills to maximise its inherent precision, a lot of talk about reaching 1000yrds is from people banging at large steel plates, by comparison the fclass centre is about 6” from memory

F class centre is 5” at 1000 yards.

But with the Howa that should put you is sporter/hunter class where your looking to hit the 2moa bull and 1moa centre like the TR shooters.

It will do the job, but don’t expect miracles compared to custom open rifles.

Spend now on some reloading gear and rack some serious kms up on that howa

I think you will be off to a fine start with what you got .
Reloading gear will be used in any other aspect of shooting if fclass dose not take your fancy .

I started with a Howa 243 in a mdt chassis
Did the job for the first year
It gave me trigger time and I shot my first possible with it
