200.20 or 200H

Hi all, just joined but about to start my second season competing in FTR

I shoot 185J atm and have had a 1in10 built for the heavies. The question is, how the 20x have been around for a little while (although not really in the UK) is it worth going for them or the older 200 hybrids? The hybrids have been easier to get hold of previously in the UK and from what Ive read have been easier to tune.

Is that what you guys have found?

Hi

Mate, I still use only the 185 Jugs at a fair pace and have not tried the 200 yet..... everyone I have spoken, use the 200gr Hybrids.... not many good words om the 200.20’s.... hope that is useful

I have a barrel currently shooting the 200.20X well - 1/10
Have used several 1000 of 200 Hybrids also
I do use tuners on the barrels in question
And the 200.20X require a shorter throat by approx .050" than the 200 H
I have long throated 200H barrels which are not usable for 200.20X

Shane, what is your case to bullet calibet at ogive length to make that work on the 200.20x’s?

Redhawk , not sure I can measure what you are asking?
I usually set up a dummy load with enough neck engagement of bearing surface and then we throat accordingly for a .010" jump usually?
My measurement is off a Sinclair nut base of case to top of nut.
And the nuts vary a little as well from one to another?

Thanx Shane, what’s your total cartridge length with a 200.20 seated? I can calculate what I need from that.

COAL on my current barrel is 3.190 with .010 jump.
However this is a barrel we throated for 215H and wouldn't shoot them! It is too long a throat ideally for 200.20X.
If I were setting up a 200.20X throat it would be COAL about 3.160 as this would allow enough bearing surface in the neck and have the base of the projectile at the bottom of the neck.

Seating depth is a funny one, probably my best barrel for 215's is throated for 185's. Seating the projectiles feels horrible as the powder crushes, but the darn thing tack drives, so I have not been game to alter anything. My other fantastic 215 barrels are ftr chambers so like Shane seated a long way out so it seems there is no ideal. Just for giggles as it is my first day off going to the range for a play with some test rounds for one of my 185 barrels with 200 hybrids, again seating very deep indeed, it will be interesting to see how it shoots tomorrow.
Cheers
Chris
