Yes I know the beer and Champagne bottles have only just been cleaned up after our Awesome Au Team’s win in Canada.

But thoughts are to be looking to the future and starting to be ready for the next Worlds in South Africa. I’ve heard that our Beloved 2209 will be difficult to obtain over there . And if we are unable to import our own powder . Then we may have to do some research and prior load development with the SA powder. I am told S 365 is quite close to 2209 . But what primers work best and how does it handle temp changes etc ?
Bloemfontein is at 1200 m ? If I am correct? What’s the energy limit ? Etc all needed to be thought about too?

Do we import our 22209 powder or 600 rounds of preloaded ammo?
Anyway maybe very premature discussion, but failing to plan , is planning to fail ?

I noticed some of the South Effricans using 300WSMs , one chap would lign up the shot then hang onto the seb grab rail
before firing.

Seriously, the cals I guess to be considered would be saum , 280 ai and the ever reliable .284 ?

My thought on what to take will depend on what surfaces in 2 years time.
Flavours change and I wouldn't advise diving into a new build till a bit closer to the comp eg 2 yrs prior

Rules I think limit caliber to 8mm.

So it is obviously going to be a 338-8mm. Or 338-308 !!!!

Just play around and make no commitment for a while yet. Accuracy and shootability are still paramount and I expect the 7 SAUM still will be a good contender.

Cartridge wise, it wont be any good if you cant train with it in Aus and the Open team will no doubt want consistency amongst all its members. I doubt we'll see anything different to or bigger than a 7SAUM in the future Aus FO Team.

Individuals might be interesting to see though. There's a few innovative characters around.

What about 28 noseler , 7 mm Rum , or 338 Lap Mag - 7mm , 300 Rum!!

Too much recoil, too much barrel heating, not as accurate as regular smaller "magnums". Short barrel life and not staying in tune for long enough. They might be OK for very short strings, but certainly not for 15-20 shot strings.

I'd love to see in individuals some .30 cal magnum variants pushing 230's fast and accurate. An unrestricted ME FCWC sounds like a great opportunity and worthy reason to put the time and money in to making that bullet work.

I think its going to be a really interesting FCWC to see for a few reasons.

Who Knows, maybe there are plans afoot by SA to have ADI powders available to accommodate all the international teams...
