Hi All, I ordered this late last year and thought if it ever turned up I'd have a go at FTR. I have a 32'' light palma barrel (not yet fitted) and wondered if a 30'' HV profile would be better???

Very nice Tim. I too had a surprise this week with my Armeria Cicognani RCX front joystick rest turning up from Italy - beautifully made. A Joypod will be possibly the next shooting accessory for ft-r forays.
Of course a new barrel will be required too, but spousal approval might not be forthcoming!
It is of course easier to seek forgiveness than approval but it would push the tolerance envelope somewhat...

How much does one weigh?
How sensitive is the joystick?
How does it rate compared to a Dolphin Trakker?
Alan
The Joy Pod is a fantastic bit of equipment well made The Dolphin Trakker is very good as well.I have used and owned both. For me it come down to individual shooting style. One thing that l had trouble getting used to with the Joy Pod. Was the sensitivity of the Joy Stick but that was just me. Nothing wrong with it. The Dolphins track very well and around the same weight at 550 gm and are well made also. Give them both a try. Thanks Michael H

I doubt there would be,though I have no way of knowing. From what I see the barrel is only part of the package, overall weight limit of 8.25 Kgs has a big say in the package. The more weight in the sighting equipment and stock means less for the barrel. My observation is that a lot of the barrels are heavier than a light Palma, one of the reasons why light weight bipods are popular. I will be trying a 32"" light Palma soon,my current 30" barrel is about a similar weight. Mike.
I believe that conventional wisdom is for a shorter and stiffer barrel over a longer and more whippy one of the same weight. However you still need enough tube to burn all the powder. Seems 26inch to 30inch in FTR seems to hit the spot, although I've seen great results from 20inch barrels and 32 inch barrels.
I run 26inch barrels now, but will probably add a couple of inches in my next ones as I have plenty of weight spare in all classes.
We run both 30 and 32. Both have different twist rates both shoot very well. It's an interesting topic as l have seen TR barrels used for FCalss and shoot very well. we have 28 inch number 7 profile Barrels for FS and those to shoot excellently. So I don't know if there is a huge advantage one way or the other. Over winter we are playing with a new project and are going to see if we can run heavier Barrels for FTR . ATM our Barrels come in at 3KG. Thanks Michael H
Having seen how well Mark Fairbairn can shoot a 308 with a Joypod, in FTR, I dont think you will have much trouble adapting to yours Tim .....or at least you cant blame the Joypod if you do ! The big dudes Grand Agg score at NQRA Queens of his Joypod was a couple of points better than any in the F Open field that included some of the worlds best Open shooters (Messrs Lobert, McNamara, Smith, Carter etc), which says a fair bit about the stability and accuracy that's possible with one. Show us some photos when you have got it all put together........you lucky bugger.
Extreme accuracy and precision shooting at long range can be a very addictive pastime.
The new (2nd run production) unit weighs 510 grams (+/- 1 gram), not 566 grams.
Your featherweight Joypod allow you to use a heavier taper (and/or a longer) barrel.
Depends on your action, stock, and scope, my F-TR rifle in the USA has a Bartlein HV taper 31" long and it's still a few ounces under the max weight limit.
I purchased two of the new Joy Pods and I have to say to anyone who gets a chance, check them out! The machining and craftsmen ship in my opinion exceptional and truly worth the money. I'm fairly fussy about this sort of thing, but seriously could not fault them, nor could anyone else who tried..... Regards Pete

Seb,
There is a high demand for your Joypods in Australia. What is the current delivery time after ordering please?
