2016 Vic Queens Distance Change

I received info from the VRA today that 300yds has been replaced by 500yds for both Syme and Queens (for both TR and F-Class) at the upcoming Vic Queens series. Good move in my opinion. So we now have Tassie, N Qld, ACT and Vic all starting at 500 (yd or m).

as you would know it proves how good you can hold at this close distance,something that is not so important when using a rest.

Demolishing the super centre has little effect on TR shooters in terms of accurate marking, but dramatically affects F class. Three super centres and the line is gone -- from then on it's guess work.

There will undoubtedly be some F-Class shooters disappointed as well. With less challenge from the wind, 300 gives a better indication than the longs about both your equipment accuracy and your shooting technique. But its the target damage mainly from F-Class that has caused this. I understand that ET targets suffer badly at 300 as well. If someone can come up with a workable solution to overcoming this problem, then 300 would not need to be abandoned.

Shoot 300 from further back is the logical solution. Wait - that's what's being done.

Seriously, though, this isn't an issue that I would want to make a call on while TR & F shoot together on the range - and don't discount that benefit. Our two big compatriots separate iron sighters & F classers, because they can't (Bisley with their different targets) or won't (USA with their philosophical/moral chasm).

There's a possibility in the future that we might consider dual matches at a queens. One that shoots the Commonwealth Games distances & a second over the three Palma ranges. Both could logistically be managed with current 4 distances a day format, with a degree of goodwill. It might mean dropping 500 & 700 yards, maybe, but I could see you getting a single 8-9-10 in for the leadup & a double during the queens.

Needs a bit of kicking around though, because there's quite a lot of regulars at every queens without weekly access to 1000 yards or even 900.

There are very few people who would have regular access to 1000 yard range practise.
I certainly don't have a 1000 yard range to use regularly yet relish the opportunity to engage a target at that distance whenever possible.

Have always enjoyed 1000 at Belmont and think it is poor that we only shoot 1000 once in a whole Queens there both for QRA and NRAA.

I have a 1,000 yard range,not at my club,75 minutes away,another 1 hour 20 minutes away and two more,just over two hours away,I am lucky to be where I am,even so it isn't possible to shoot that distance very often.
At the moment I am in Tasmania, at Campbell Town,watching tha Australian Match Rifle Team practicing.

For me personally I am happy with dropping the 300 range and starting at 500. As for 1000 still haven't popped my cherry, might have to try and ring some steel at that range at home but is hard with so much stock around Anyway 900 yards is the longest that I have shot so far in my short F class shooting.
