Range Locations

Post by Ken L »

 :?: =D>

With the advent of GPS Navigation for cars and Google Earth for the internet.
Let's develop a guide to Ranges on this web forum.

Now I will start it off with the following locations

Grafton Range
152 degrees 57 minutes 3.47 seconds EAST..
29 degrees 36 minutes 46.75 seconds SOUTH

Brisbane Range
153 dergrre8 minutes 2.75 seconds EAST ..
27 degrees 30 minutes 28.84 seconds SOUTH

Toowoomba Range
151 degrees 58 minutes 11.72 seconds EAST
27 degrees 32 minutes 23.41 seconds SOUTH

Not only put in your local range but other ranges that you know the locations.
Good camping grounds a for carravans etc wont go astray for those traveling to OPM's where you can't stop on the range.

Once we get a comprehensive list they can be compiled and sorted by state and alaphabeticaly and maybe a URL published on the NRA web site as well.

Ken,
Damn you're fast!! I quickly edited my first post which was for the SSAA range next door. The current co-ords are correct.

Hornsby Range, Sydney, NSW. The coordinates are from Google earth and are actually of our club house but the range is adjacent to it. In other words if you make it to our club house you wont miss the 800m of grass next to it.

lat=-33.6907017883, lon=151.091492046

Here is a link to a global list of highpower/fullbore ranges being compiled for Google Earth. Quite a few Australian ones are featured.

http://tinyurl.com/zlkag

I came across this while lurking on the fullbore list. Not strictly f-class but interesting all the same.

Mark,

Looking at your link, and following the "how to" links, it looks like we could have a small .kml text file for each range, and make it available on the website. Opening the file would launch google earth and go straight to the location of the range - and it could even have the magnification and viewing angle preset. I don't have Google Earth at home (still on a 56k connection), but will try it at work.

All the range locations have been passed on to Asa Yam who is compiling a world wide list of range locations that started about the same time as I set up this forum.
So all your input has helped to compile this index.
Thanks to ALL.
And if you find that your range is not already on the Google list then send it to me for passing on to Asa.

An interesting feature of Google earth is seen if you look at the Inverell range and then tilt the picture after rotating the view to the east
