James Corbett and Geoff Grenfell in Commonwealth games

Post by RDavies »

The latest results from the Glasgow Commonwealth Games shows James and Geoff currently in 2nd place after day 1 of the pairs competition. They are currently on 200 points and only 3 Vs behind England with the 2nd day to come. Wish them luck for day 2 of the pairs and then 2 days of individuals.
Australia also had a few other shooters competing in the Bisley Queens last week, does anyone have any links for results?

Ammo is issued on the mound.
Both of our guys had some practice ammo in OZ to practice with before they left so no surprises. Geoff commented before he left that it was pretty good ammo.
I can't remember where it is made.

After dropping back to 4th place in the pairs competition, Geoff Grenfell is currently in the lead after the 1st day of the individual competition. James Corbett has had a difficult start and is in 20th place at the end of the 1st day.

I believe that the ammunition is loaded by RWS in RWS brass using an, unknown to me propellant, pushing Sierra 2155's.
Some of the practise ammunition was tried by Jim Jefferies (the reserve shooter) at our range and was, from memory, only pushing approximately 2850 fps on his crony.
I would hazard a guess that it is the same specs as ammo issued at Bisley?

At the end od day 2 (of 3), Geoff Grenfell is in 3rd place, 2 Vs behind 1st, counted out from 2nd. James Corbett is 3 points behind in 12th. So far they have shot 2 lots of 3,5,600, with only a 900 and 1000yd to go.
Good luck to the Aussies in Glasgow.

Yes RWS sounds right. A bit slower than Geoff liked, (3000f/s)

the facebook page has lots of good flim clips etc and only about 20 minutes after the ranges are shot, scores are available.

Range issued ammo . . . . . interesting. By the scores it looks like it must shoot pretty well!

They have just started the 2nd last range, with James and Geoff about to start. In the scores so far, there are a few 3s being shot, so conditions are not great, leaving room for James to move up the leader board.

James is a big chance as he can shoot fast & probably needs to in the weather they have now.

It looks like Geoff Grenfell did well at the 900yd stage. He only dropped one point which should put him in the lead, while James only dropped 2 points to take him up to 8th, not far from the leaders with the 1000yd range to come.
Still waiting for some sort of coverage on TV.

A tough day at the office for our boys from Aus.

That final 1000 yards must have been tough work. As top shooters from all over the Commonwealth had problems staying on the target.

So many 0's, 1's and 2's across most shooters. With a 74 and 70 from the 2 English team members showing a little home advantage is good.
