Anyone have much experience with the 180gn Sierra in 7mm.
I am thinking of trying them in a .284win barrel that is on its last legs to try and get a bit more life out of it.

Yes Norm - a few of us up here have tried them and had quite some success. I will however say that we are all back on Bergers now but with no big reason

Norm, I had a similar experience as Dave.
I guess the Berger marketing worked.

Price wise the bergers would probably be more attractive too? I see the price on the lapua 7mm 180gr isnt all that attractive! I would hate to have a barrel that only liked those projectiles!

The initial reason for me trying the 180's was when the Bergers were in short supply and they do work quite well.
RRP of $105 a box for the Lapua!

OK I will give them a try.
The barrel does not shoot the Berger's at all now. Groups are five times larger than when I first developed the load. The throat has gone forward about 60 thou.
Just thinking that the Sierra's may handle the worn throat better than the Berger's and restore some sort of accuracy as the barrel has only done about 1200 rounds.
I will run off four or five different loads with the Sierra's and see if I can find a reasonable load. If not then it looks like I have a fire forming barrel.

My first Krieger got 4000 rds. I have retired it, but it was still accurate.

Its 28" now so would end up being a bit on the short side. Still it might make a nice short range fire forming barrel for my 7-08ai if I rechamber it..

The one I said did 4000rds ended up at 27". That barrel was competitive at 1000yds. My wife used it to shoot some great groups in the trials for the World Champs.
