I was having a chat with Dave from HBC projectiles yesterday and I showed him a copy of the NSW equipment list. We got to talking about the need for an OZ made bullet in another calibre. Going by the list it seems that a 180 .284 is the flavour ATM followed by a .264 140/130 . What do you all think would be the best and what type/proflie etc.

If FTR was to take off I suspect a .308 of around 180/210 would be a seller to.

Yes - A 180 gr 7mm pill is the most popular at the moment but I think a word of caution here. It would of course need to have outstanding quality control to compete with the 180 Hybrid and VLD dominance.

Have had my share of lengthy conversations with David regarding different projectiles, from what I can gather I think he would need a LOT of interest to tool up for another projectile.

Perhaps some pre-commitment from shooters would give him the stability he needs to make the investment?

Top bloke David, and a I feel a little sorry for the situation he was in with the NRAA and the previous owner, lets hope he can make some headway on new lines in the near future.

I have been talking with Ken Melgard (Copper Head) and he is waiting on dies for heavy 30 cal projectiles and I think 7mm dies as well.
I have tested 22 cal projectiles in my BR and quality is great.
I have been very disappointed with Berger projectiles of late and I want to support local products when they get produced.

Regardless of brand and type it is the quality and consistency that sells lots of projectiles Berger have based their reputation on those pillars
And other once popular brands have not.

And yes I would try local made projies as I think most ppl would but if the quality is lacking they will stay on the shelf.

I will send you some Berger 30 cal projectiles and you be the judge and tell me they are good quality.

Funny though, Ian got a reply saying " don't use them in competition".

Us F-open shooters can be a picky bunch and I guess we are all saying much the same thing. If he can build quality bullets then the market will come. As with all commercial ventures somewhere you have to take a risk. I doubt you will find too many people willing to preorder 1000's of projectiles without a trial. Most will buy a few hundred to start and give them a go. It will take time to gain confidence and support but I think everyone here would give the local bloke a go at least.

Too true, it's a long steep road or everyone would be doing it. David would have more than a few issues to contend with, but can an automatic transfer press produce a projectile acceptable to the 'picky bunch'? Berger's production equipment and staffing might not be the only answer, but is significantly different to maintain quality and volume. Lapua might be the only other high volume manufacturer of quality projectiles that could have an answer?

Thanks again to my supporters and those who given my products a go. Your support continues to be re-invested in the products and the future still looks bright for myself and now possibly a couple of other local manufacturers.
