Hi all.

Just after some information from anyone with a 10-10 beam scale.

Lately I have had trouble with the scale repeating zero, and I noticed that the back stone "V" block is tipping or rolling with the beam knife edges. It would appear as thought the alloy dimple that the stone sits on is worn, allowing the stone to rock side to side.

Would anyone be able to check their scales and confirm that the stones are solid in the holders for me?

The blocks on mine are loose. But my 10-10 is a piece of s*it. It worked fine for about 100 reloads then it just lost its repeatability. I tried tightening the blocks with the same result. Would not hold its zero. Now it just sits in my cupboard in it box. Biggest waste of money. Buy a good electronic one. I have several electronic ones. A cheap $20 ebay one, a expensive AND one 0.01gn and the RCBS combo. Beam scales are not what they use to be. There was a bloke in the US who used to tweak the 10-10 beam scales, but he wont touch them any more because they are useless now.

What is the RCBS warranty period on the 10-10 scales, limited or lifetime?

I have an old RCBS somewhere, a 505 I think, which has the same beam as yours & as I recall, the ceramic or agate blocks are floating. I'll dig it out & see what it's like.

Don't know what the warranty period is, but mine is 2 years old now. I have shimmed up the strong block so it moved less.

I also polished the begeeses out the knife edges. They are now sharper than my filleting knife. Also polished the points where the pan pivots. This seems to have sorted out the repeatablity of the zero. I just need a set of check weights to now check the accuracy of the poise (I think that is what it's called.)

I am guessing that like all things mechanical, they wear out, or need attention. Will be interesting to see what the check weights say?

If anyone else is considering getting a mechanical scale, I've had a very good run with a Redding #2 for about 4 years now. Needs occasional cleaning of knife edges and grooves, but is reliable and accurate. Its the only mechanical one I've used, so can't say its better than RCBS, but I do recommend it (prefer it to several electronic ones tried).
