Hi all,
Is there any science involved with the "running in" of a new barrel?
Old cars used to be run in but with advances in modern machining it's no longer needed to my knowledge.
Can this be applied to modern barrels?
What are the outcomes of not running in if I just start shooting and clean after each session?

Im not the best person to ask but, with the eexception of 1 or 2 barrels i have run them all in. I ususally do 2-4 1 shot and clean followed by 2-4 2 or 3 shot and clean and pull the pin on it. You can tell if a barrel needs more roudns as it stil hard to clean at the end.

Last week i witnessed a rifle with a new barrel shoot 20 rounds without a clean. The first 9 were used to sight in and get a zero, the other 11 were used to shoot 7 or 8 clay targets at 500y. It wasnt a target rifle but it can prove that a rifle will/could shoot fine as is.

Was that single or double trap?
