I'm new to f class, well about to join have been shooting for 18 years but not long range. Was wondering if anyone on here could tell me If a savage 12 benchrest in .308 is a good kit to start off with?

It will be fine
Most of us started with a hunting rifle so you are ahead there
Savage make some very good gear and their Mod 12 are generally suited for most long range shooting.

Very rarely does a factory rifle shoot great straight out of the box they are manufactured to a price not and accuracy standard
But a good choice

Ok I like the look of the benchrest more I don't like the flat bottom on the f class but more importantly they don't do it in .308 and that is what I wanna shoot.
Have you started shooting with a club yet? I'd be looking at what the too guys use and see how you can build the same within your budget. You will be better suited I think. You can shoot F/TR here in Australia, its just to be shot under F-Open. It's not a seperate class yet. I'd also be looking on used guns for the rifle you want aswell.
No I haven't started with a club yet been working 7 days to get more cash, but will be shortly. Didn't know about used guns ie chamber or barrel a bit flogged out.
