6.5x47 Lapua Range Report

Post by Quinny »

I finally got my Savage with its new 6.5x47 Lapua barrel out to an 800m F-Class shoot today.

The first sighter was a 5, then 8 consecutive X's, but then I jagged the last shot into the 5 again.

I will take 58.8 at 800m for a first time out.

I think that the rifle can definitely do a 60.10, but I need to learn how to shoot....

Bottom line - the 6.5x47 seems to be living up to its hype.

Thanks Aubrey, I will be back soon. There does not seem to be many FO shooters in the club, nearly everyone seems to shoot TR - I must give that a try one day.

Considering that my rifle is just a factory Savage with a new barrel on it, and I am shooting scores comparable with many custom rifles - I am pretty happy with that.

The wind was very calm, so I guess that helped a lot. It gives me a good indication of how accurate the rifle is, because I am crap at reading the wind - definitely something I need practice with as I start getting more into F-Class.

The load I am using is 36.8gn 2208, Berger 130gn projectile with a 15 thou jam, CCR BR primers and Lapua brass.
