Bundaberg Burnett Open Prize Meeting Results

Post by ecomeat »

Bundaberg is home to more than just its iconic rum.........i have just discovered one of the best little OPMs on offer, run by a small but enthusiastic committee who simply do it all "for the shooters".
Great cash prizemoney, loads of genuine Bundy Rum Official Merchandise for prizes and lots of Fuel Cards courtesy of locals Gillian and Darren Enslin and their Caltex Truck Stop on the Bruce Highway at Apple Tree Creek meant that a lot of very happy shooters took a share of all that loot home.
In F Class Open , five of us battled it out over the two days with just a point or two separating the field at most times.
Dave Hatherell from Gympie-Kilkivan RC was the eventual winner, in his first ever F Open event, and shooting a 260 Rem, with a 26" barrel that spat out 140 gr Bergers at 2750 fps.
Phil Dewhurst and I tried to explain to Dave that experienced tactical/practical/military shooters with 6.5mm rifles and 26 inch barrels, partially pimped with orange bolt nobs and scope rails arent meant to beat 284's but he didnt seem to be listening

Fresh from demolishing a field of 39 competitors to take out the North Arm Anzac 303 shoot at Easter, Dave scored 404-16 to win the No.1 badge.

I was a point away in 2nd place, with 403-22 (.284 Win) and one point back in 3rd was Phil Dewhurst on 402-19.(also a 284 Win)
Phil was also 3rd at Warwick, QLD a couple of weeks earlier at the Darling Downs OPM
Emile Daniel from Natives Club at Belmont shot his 6BR into 4th place (and won the first of the 2 x 900 yard ranges shot on Sunday).
Local Noel Porter kept us honest after not being able to shoot the 300 yards first up on Saturday morning

In the photo below, F Open winner Dave Hatherell from Gympie-Kilkivan flanked by 2nd Place T Berry from Beaudesert, and 3rd placed Phil Dewhurst from Wallumbilla

In F Standard A Grade, Bevan Goschnick from Monto and Brian Pickles from Natives Club battled it out for two days, with Bevan eventually winning with 395-18, and Brian just a point away in 2nd on 394-19.
Brian and I would gladly trade a couple of X's for one more 6 !!

In F Standard B Grade, 6 shooters fought it out for two days, with J Koch on 378-14 in 1st, Club Captain Ken Shillington a good 2nd on 359-8, and S Connolly 3rd with 356-8
Image
TR A Grade saw a ding dong battle between 5 quality shooters, and the win eventually going to Australian TR Team "fixture" Gillian Webb-Enslin. Russell Saxby from Goondiwindi in 2nd, Darren Enslin 3rd . Rod Prayle and Alec Petigrew were right in the mix all weekend.
In TR B Grade, Brett Harling shot well to relegate BBRC stalwart and BBQ expert Maurie Irwin to 2nd Place. Bruce Nardi was 3rd and Deane Enslin 4th.
L Harding took home the spoils from C Grade.
This a really great weekend that a lot more shooters should do all they can to attend next year.
Wise local TR shooters came well prepared for any weather incidents
Image
An "all you can eat" feast of fresh banana prawns on Saturday night was just something extra that Maurie and Di Irwin added to their food reportoire......freshly cooked bacon, sausages and eggs available both mornings and fresh rolls all day. Free tea, coffee and biscuits always there and of course plenty of cold drinks on hand.
Emile Daniel contemplates wether or not he can fit in just one more banana prawn, provided for free by BRRC.
Image
Some of the best mounds to shoot from that this black duck has seen, and paid target markers (Bundaberg Navy Cadets) just helped to top off a great weekend.
Image
Dogs are fully welcome, and they probably dont even need their own chair like Bruce Nardi's "Fred" takes everywhere with him when he decides to accompany Bruce to a shoot.
Image
There is plenty of space for caravans, tents etc or if you are a woos like me, its only about 20 klm into Bundaberg itself where there are Motels galore.
Try and mark it down for next year....its a guaranteed great weekend of shooting, and the Bundaberg Burnett Rifle Club deserve a lot more support for the effort that they put in. Come on up in 2014 !!

Great report

That's a great looking range.

The prawns are super.

And if the Bundy is on tap, then that'll top it off just fine.

Great to see the photo's.

It makes me want to drive up to QLD just for the food and drink....I mean the shoot.

Good job.

Hey Cam, I just did a whereis calculation:
2061.1Km from home
23hours 2 minutes

Really there is no reason that I can't simply drive up each year :-)

As for living in QLD, I'll pass. You simply can't beat the 4 season's per day in Melbourne :-)

Alan,
Thank you for the flattering comments. Unfortunately the opportunity to shoot at the QRA Queens with 30 odd of the best F Class shooters being overseas representing Australia at tnat time, and therefore unable to compete, is something that I just can't pass up !!
