Zircon Heavy Sand - where to buy?

Post by Eicharsto »

Hi all,

I have read that Zircon due to its weight is the best sand to use for filling rear bags.

Problem is I can find anywhere that sells it.

Anyone know?

Heavy Sand

Go to your nearest SUPER CHEAP Auto shop and ask for a drum of "sand blasting" sand. Very heavy...costs about $15 from memory.

Ask somebody to show where they dumped the black stuff up behind the Iternational range.

Go to swimming pool shop and buy a bag of pool filter sand. The weight difference will not be that much different and it is not as sharp as zircon so is easier on your bag. I have yet to see where the small amount of extra weight will make any difference to anybodies score!!! A small funnel and a piece of dowel will make it easier to pack sand in bag.

G'day All,
go to any sand blaster and beg, borrow or barter new garnet sand, dont get the used stuff as it will leak out the stitching. Its not as heavy as zircon but readily available or find a supplier and buy a (from memory) a 15kg bag for around 25 bucks
