Understanding MOA clicks?

Post by Eicharsto »

New to the sport, so please be patient. I have a NF 12-42x56 BR Scope that has 1/8 MOA clicks.

At the same time I purchased NightForce Ballistics Calculator which tells me how many clicks I need at certain ranges.

Now, here is my question - When i get to 1000 yds, the program suggests 285 clicks of elevation and 81 clicks of wind.

285 clicks  Is that correct? Do I need to turn the Elev turret 285 times or am I getting confused with the whole thing.

I am sighted at 100 yds if that helps.

So confused...

I started to write a reply but it will just confuse you further, give me a call on 0402230877 and I'd be more than happy to explain it to you.

Each full revolution of your elevation and windage turrets on your NF scope equals 6 minutes of angle which with 1/8th moa clicks is 48 clicks per revolution. Essentially if you divide the total number of clicks by 8 you will get how many MOA you need to dial in. You could count individual clicks but it would take forever. As a side note if you don't have a 20moa scope mount you might find you won't be able to dial in that much elevation as I believe the 12-42 only has 40moa of elevation travel and you're going to be dialling in just shy of 37moa.
Hope this has helped a little,
Michael

It has Michael, thanks heaps. To make sure though, at 300 yds, the ballistic program tels me 32 MOA, I expect this equates to 4 revolutions? I.e if the turret was at 0, it would now read 4.

Cheers,

That's 4 moa= 32 clicks. Sounds in the ballpark for a 100-300m change in distance.
