One thing I learned from our last attempt was that as the time got nearer, people who said they were interested began to pull out. In the end I did it myself too. How are we going to prevent this from happening again? Should we be asking for a deposit of some sort? Perhaps we should say to people, to be considered for the team you must have your air tickets and accommodation booked 12 months out. The people we need in the team are the ones who really want to be there regardless.

And yes I'm interested .

How about talking to the NRAA & asking how teams in other disciplines manage it - successfully?

The problem with leaving upto the NRAA it will get left to the last minute like last time and getting a FClass team is a bigger event than a TR team, there's reloading gear, rests etc which weigh heaps and also now is time to gwt things going with sponsorship, fund raising etc.
There's a good chance I won't be going BUT I'd like to help get things moving as long as there's enough interest.

Yes the NRAA was too late coming aboard last time. If it wasn't for a special last minute effort by James Corbett, it would have been even worse. But it might be worth asking them or some overseas team shooters what is done to make sure team members stay committed after they're selected.

I'll tell you what my current approach to this is. Myself and 3 other F-Open shooters have already decided we're going to Raton in 2013 (all with spouses). We will probably book our accommodation this year. We will get our own gear there (probably by surface freight for barrels, brass, projectiles and any heavy gear we won't miss for a few months). We'll continue to say we're available for the team, and participate in any trials etc. The advantage of doing this is that if no team eventuates, or some of us don't make the team, we can still do the leadup events, the individual FCWC, and the Rutland Cup teams. And most importantly, we can go ahead making arrangements with some certainty, without having to rely on there being a National team.

Perhaps some other groups could do this too.

pestbird didn't say anything,as one would expect of a 30 cal shooter, but i wouldn't repeat what glen , heyward,
& greeny said. (they are also 7mm converts.)

Hmmm, sounds like at the SA Queens you're going to do what the Poms did at Bisley - i.e. use 7mms and a lot of local knowledge to make it a one horse race. Look's like I'd better bring one of my better barrels .

don't worry too much.
i think this whole calibre thing at bisley is a bit overdone.
having shot 6.5 & 7mm, i would happily go back to 6.5 if i could afford barrels. in fact the 6.5x47 is getting a lot of attention here due to its balance of barrel life, b.c., & shootability.
the yanks just copped a different system & conditions than they were used to.
