I had a spare hour in Melbourne today so called in at Victorian Arms/Parabellum Imports. For those who aren't aware, Parabellum Imports are now the sole distributers for Berger projectiles in Australia. I had heard some concerns from F-Open shooters about supply problems so decided to find out what Parabellum had in stock, and what was coming. I regret to say that they seem to be close to or completely out of all projectiles of interest to us. I spoke with the Manager of Parabellum, and was able to have a friendly and honest discussion about the situation. One problem has been that their US export licence had lapsed, and required jumping through many hoops to renew - I understand that has now been addressed. But the main concern is that they are not familiar with F-Class shooting, and do not know which target projectiles to order in quantity.

So, I suggested that I do some information gathering on this Forum, to find out which projectiles are of interest, and even try to estimate quantities, and pass this back to them. They are very keen to get this information, and I believe they will make an effort to act on it, by ordering decent quantities of the projectiles which we want.

What I would like F-Open shooters to do is say which projectiles they would be interested in, and have a stab at how many they might need over the next couple of years. And could you also talk to other F-Open shooters who won't see this, and get some feedback from them?

I can say now that I would be interested in the 6.5mm 140gn BT (Pt No 26409) and would order at least 1000 of them over the next 2 years.

BTW please include the projectile Part Nos (right hand column) from the Berger website.

I hope no-one sees any problem with my organising this. You'll just have to believe me when I say there is no under the table financial advantage - I just think it would be a shame if we got to lose Berger projectiles as a realistic option.

fantastic idea! if it helps get a more consistant supply of quality projectiles then i hope more people can get on board.

i would take 2000 6.5 130VLD and 200 6.5 140VLD's pet year.

well if things go to plan i will be doing alot of shooting over the next few years so with that in mind i would be looking at
1000-1500 6mm 108BT (24431)
or maybe the 6mm 115VLD (24430) per year
plus i better not forget the 308 155

it seems a shame that we had a aussie supplier (who is an active LR & SR shooter) bringing in Berger Bullets in qty of what we needed but now is no longer the case and the new supplier appears to be clueless as to the Aussie target shooters require in the berger bullet line!

So much for proper market research before offering a product for sale! And only now is asking for our help in what lines to stock..........

I'll wait until we know which ones we want, then ask for a price list. There is a possibility they may set their pricing according to what we can afford to pay - otherwise they won't sell any . I explained to them that we use a swag more projectiles in a year than your average hunting reloader, so pricing is important. I don't see why we should be paying much more than Sierra and the likes - Berger are only slightly dearer in the US.

Regarding the 100gn 6mm, if you can find out a Part No, and you want some, then we'll put them on the list.

Alan, I would be buying 1000 x 6.5mm 130gr VLDs. So add another 1000 of the 130s to the list. There are a few shooting this projectile in SA so maybe 3-4000 of the 130s would be required.

Hope this helps Parabellum order enough of what we want in F-Class and its a damn good idea helping them know what stock to get.

Would be nice if the NRAA opened up the bullet brand use in TR and F-Standard
They already allow BJD /Sierra /Hornady and Nosler Y don’t Berger get a Guernsey.

As I see it, two hurdles:
1) Parabellum only deal with the trade so someone needs to aggregate the orders and open a business account with them.
2) It appears shooters want small quantities for at least 3-5 different calibers with differing bullet weights.

I gave up on waiting for Berger Bullets thru their Oz importers/distributors Parabellum. Hopefully Berger will appoint another distributor sometime soon and we all can buy their bullets for a reasonable price and be assured of sufficient stock being held.

In the meantime I have switched to Hornady Amax and Lapua Scenar bullets and suggest you take a look at other bullets as well.

Would it be worth asking how much 5000 projectiles imported to Melbourne would be worth. That way we can gage if it is worth the effort.

Then if people are happy with the price, we sign up for the initial order.

As with any shop, they aren't profitable having a little of each size, so we should try to limit our request to two calibres, and two projectiles.

or whatever the forum thinks is a core use projectile?

Otherwise, should we as a group be coordinating our purchasing practises? If we order twice a year as a group, we should be able to order big and make it worth everyones while.
