Just starting out in FTR and looking for a chassis to replace my Savage Model 12 standard Chassis. Any recommendations?

I looked for one of these a few years ago. Cause it's a Mod 12 it's next to impossible to find a chassis. All the existing chassis are for model 10's. If you do manage to find something make sure the screw spacing is correct. What is wrong with the standard chassis? what are you looking to achieve?

I'm with Guy, is there something wrong with your standard chassis.

FTR is a challenging class to shoot and I have used a few different alloy chassis and a few different styles of timber stocks. Both types handle differently and feel different to shoot BUT the biggest hurdle you will find is how you handle the recoil as a shooter.

I will also say shooting the three most common/popular projectile weight classes (155, 185 and 200) will increasingly test your handling skills as you go heavier.

12 and 10 are the same action inlet, 110 and 112 are long action, the determining factors for short action are side or bottom bolt (newer models) release and centre feed (newer)or stagger feed (action screw spacing on short action only, longs are all the same.
I have an accurate mag which is heavy but good, if I was starting over I’d go MDT ess for prs or ACC for fstd, take that advice for what you paid for it though.

The stock has been modified for a rear bag rider and the screws holding the rail in place have loosened up. I have tried adding improvements to secure but it still feels like a temporary fix so i was exploring options to replace. I want to shoot FTR with it so was keen to see the options. Thanks Guy.

Can you pop up a photo of it?

I use an MDT XRS chassis on my sav12. There may be others as good but you cannot go wrong with one of these ....

I love the look of the low profile forend, how do you find it stiffness wise?

its a totally rigid structure, you just have to make sure the plastic panels stay firmly screwed in place. maybe check them every now and then perfect platform really

yes, it was just a drop in. actually LRP did a bit of machining probably because i'd changed the recoil lug at some point but i dont think you will see any problems. I had to fit an arca rail as well. so i'm 90% sure you will not have a problem. I have one on my tikka as well ....

also my bipod rec was for PCO, not FTR. i did not read the first post .... what bipod do people use for ftr ?
