Looking for greater BC and less dispersion at longer ranges

My opinion, not backed up by testing:
I did have a Whidden pointing die set but ended up selling it because I thought it wasn't worth the effort. It's mind-numbing stuff.
And I have a tool that will let me sort a box of 500 by length in about an hour and a half, which is a much better investment in time IMO.

I assume your aim in pointing is consistency in BC.
However, pointing with a die is not a road to projectile uniformity, it only uniforms the point and does nothing about projectile length, you will still have to sort by length.
I would hazard a guess that variation in BC due to meplat variation is less than variation in BC due to length variation. But it's a guess.



If I was too go down this route, the only way would be the F Class Products MTAP trimming and pointing system

because it will trim to length and uniform the point at the same time and create a one batch projectile.
Sell a kidney first.

Not being rude, I just see it all the time on this forum.

What projectiles are you using?
What results are you getting and what are your goals?
How good is your wind reading?
What's the point of pointing(clever hey) if your 10mph wind call is 2mph out which equals 24cm of extra wind drift at 700m

Provide some good info on what you are using and then you may get some some good advice.

Do guys point Bergers Hybrids, sure.
Do they get tiny groups at 1000, yes.
But their handloading process and wind reading is world class.

Or,
if your goal is as stated to get higher/consistent genuine BCs just use Berger or ATips
Unless you have lotsa money and like to tinker that is.

My own experience...I've pointed Berger 184gr hybrids for a few years now, and more recently 180gr hybrids. Testing at 800 metres with the 184s shows elevation difference of half a minute less for the pointed bullets in a 284 Shehane. The 184s already have a pretty decent point on them, but they shoot just fine once pointed.

Sorry, should have provided a bit more info. I'm an ex-TR shooter with 50+ years of experience and an excellent record of wind coaching. I'm using 155.5gn Bergers, and am after the benefit of fellow shooters' experience before committing to the expense of a pointing system. I appreciate the feedback.

dont apologise, it was an honest question. Its sometimes hard to know exactly what the question is and too many are ready to jump in and be overly critical.
Have a look at the winning in the wind YouTube videos in my previous post.
I come from an engineering background and a lot of the BS has been called out with in these videos. If it works he says so, if it doesn't he says so. If he's unsure, he says so but there is absolutely great info from a bloke who records and analyses his results in F class open in the US. He will test theories, ideas and you see what works or not. Best of all you can decide what you do based on his info
He is also one of the top shooters over there and and ISN'T selling anything! So that is a big plus.

I do see a lot of posts questioning something like pointing if your wind reading etc isn't up to it and to focus on wind reading, position setup etc
I have always thought that misses the point. (haha)
Like anything reloading related you need to point bullets well or you can make them worse. So with that set aside I see no relationship between skills as a shooter and bullet pointing done well.
You can question the time vs reward relationship which is dubious with a suggested 1 or 2 points difference every 100 rounds or so.
All the research says that pointing bullets done well (not over pointed) yields a benefit (on tools prior to the MTAP too). My philosophy is - I'll take that benefit into my system regardless of my capability - its why I also buy custom actions rests, barrels etc, the sum of the whole adds up. Each item on its own could be considered dubious as to its benefit.
In many cases of "improvements" it can be argued whether it is a benefit and makes a difference or not (tuners is an obvious example here) - setting aside whether or not a shooter has the skills or the setup to take advantage of that benefit.
IMO its pretty clear that bullet pointing yields a benefit and that is a separate conversation from being able to take advantage of that benefit, but again this is a finicky sport where the sum of small gains add up.

There is a link on the page to a Wanker John review

There is a problem, Hoover won't send it to Australia or anything else for that matter.
I got Reloading International to order one in and purchased from them. Can't remember the cost, but it didn't work out cheap.
