Here's a question for the brains trust. Does a Savage Model 12 LRPV(Long Range Precision Varminter) make the grade for SPC or is it too much like a target rifle to qualify.

If it’s an off the shelf gun and makes weight it’s good to go I believe

It wouldn’t pass as it isn’t a repeating rifle,nice rifle though.

Nowhere in the rules is repeating rifle compulsory. It just says that these rules allow them to be used.
I think the Savage is OK.

This discipline is intended to allow commercially available (shop purchased) sporting/hunting/varmint repeating type centrefire rifles to be used on NRAA rifle ranges.

The paragraph you quote is the intro.
It is not part of the "rules".
The rules are the numbered items below the intro. Where it says " 23.1 Standard Rules "

If single shot rifles are excluded, the rules should say it.

What do you do about a rifle that was made as a repeater, but has a sled fitted, no magazine and functions as a single shot?

And would Ruger Nbr1/3's be similarly excluded?

The preamble sets the tone, it's not irrelevant.
I would suggest it's there to "allow' repeaters as opposed to "only load single shots"

That being said, the savage mentioned is certainly an edge case, I seem to remember them being touted as "F class ready"
when they were released, but plenty have been used on small furries, I considered a LPRB years ago for roo's as the brass would at least end up in the cab.

Looks like there's 1.5kg to throw a rail, scope and bipod on there and you're up and running.

Yes, it is designed to allow magazine feed if permitted by the range standing orders, not mandate it as the only type of sporter rifle

I would also believe that the opening paragraph is an over arching statement for the basis classification of the competition. My club will only allow repeater's so as to allow a hard line between sporting/hunting rifles and fclass guns being used in a discipline not designed for it - which did happen in some clubs in Sth East QLD earlier on. I have raised this on the new Sporter Facebook group as it is an interesting question but I feel that it would be a hard NO from all of the clubs I shoot and compete at. The other practical side of things is 1.5kg for a rail, bipod and rear bag would be interesting - Yes I know a rear bag is not required. I am sure my Savage 12 FTR would not have much hope even if I changed the barrel and then shot in 7.5kg open class. It would also be interesting to see how you can comply with weigh in when you can't supply a magazine/sled, which is what is mandated at Sporter comps like the Kings etc.....

If the barrel does not exceed 66.04 cm or 26 inch and is a factory barrel being single shot should not exclude it as long as it passes the other conditions.

I would allow a single shot rifle... I dont think its meant to exclude them in the wording.. but i agree its ambiguous

It would seem to me the most sensible thing to do would be for a State Association to ask the NRAA Board to clarify the matter by modifying the Rules to make it very clear if a single shot rifle is to allowed or excluded.
I've run across this agreement/disagreement a number of times and this would be a simple way to solve the whole subject.
