Does anyone know what sort of velocity you can expect from a 6.5 creedmoor with a 30" barrel running 140gr Berger Hybrids with 2209. Lapua srp brass. Does 2800-2850ft/sec sound about right or would you expect more velocity from a 30" barrel compared to a 26" barrel. Do you get to a point where the extra barrel length does nothing or becomes irrelevant. I can't find much online about this topic. Keen to see what velocity others are getting from a 30" barrel with a similar projectile/powder combination.

Here's what QuikLOAD says. Take these results as indicative not actual.

Both at max pressure loads. 43.81gn 2209

32" - 3006 fps
31" - 2988 fps
30" - 2969 fps
29" - 2951 fps
28" - 2931 fps
27" - 2910 fps
26" - 2888 fps
25" - 2865 fps
24" - 2840 fps

Approx 20 fps increase per inch.

Thanks for the information. Will wind her up a bit.

I'm running a 26" bartlein, 140gr eldm, lapua srp. Fed 205gmm 41.9gr 2209 and getting around 2950fps. I certainly wouldn't like to load with a 43gr charge behind a 140gr, that's way too hot.

I'm at 40.6gr at the moment. Velocity is around 2810 with a 30 inch barrel running 140s and 2209.

I’d be very careful exploring velocities based on this , I am only going by my experience using 2209 with 260 and 260 AI (23yrs) and 308 FTR with heavies . I’ve used a ton of 2209 and lately batches exist considerable variation of burn rates , some of my loads need nearly a full grain charge /change either way to maintain developed load velocities
So please becareful out there speed isn’t everything comes at a price if you change any one component retest to make sure it won’t spike pressure
Now find that load
Cheers

Yeah agreed with Cheech. Recently changed batches and found the new batch was 80fps faster. Fortunately I was running on a low node so it didn't cause any safety issues.

I agree. Biggest mistake I made when starting reloading was buying 500 gram and 1kg bottles of powder. Different batches always resulted in different velocities with the same load.
I'm looking at or around 2850-2900ft/sec just to buck the wind a little more without shortening my brass life.
