Longest barrel on an Impact Precision 737R?

Post by GuyLuke »

What would be the longest barrel you could put on an Impact Precision 737R action?

I've got a 6.5mm 31" heavy varmint profile Bartlein coming in but I have a feeling it might be a bit much for a R700 clone repeater despite it being a high quality action.

What are the possible downsides of putting a 30" barrel on an action such as this?

Regards,

Guy

You can fit as long a barrel as you want, though you need to consider how you will bed it.
If you want to put a long, heavy barrel in, you will need to support the barrel as well as the action.
In other words, you can't simply use a V block bed. You need to have the knox end bedded to prevent the action body taking all of the weight of the barrel.
Whilst it is a high quality, well made action, it is relatively thin and springy as it is a repeater. If you try and hang a very heavy barrel off of it without support, it will tend to droop and possibly bend the action over time.

The secret is in the way the barrelled action will be bedded!!

Ok so if I bed the full length of the knox I should be right with 30"-29" heavy varmint barrel?

Also try fitting the scope and finding the balance point,
Bed to there if it’s not running down the taper to much.

Have you contacted Impact?
You could always ask Tate Streater as the manufacturer about this.
A more reliable answer than opinions on a forum maybe......

Depending on the action along with the barrel contour and weight... I'll put a bedding pad underneath the barrels breech end when bedding the action.

The rule of thumb I use most of the time...If up to a HV contour and not longer than 28" I full float the barrel.

If 1.250" straight or 30" or longer... than I'll put a pad under the breech end of the barrel.

Again it can depend on the action type as well.
