Hi,
would an avg of 2670 - 2680 fps in a 30" Krieger Lapua SRP brass be pushing too much pressure?
Load looks nice but would it be too hard on the brass?
thanks

SAAMI recommended max pressure for 308 is 62,000psi
I used this calculator here: http://closefocusresearch.com/calculati ... un-systems
Based on 30" barrel, 200gn projectiles, 2680fps MV, looks to be around 52,400psi.
For comparison, we've run the same barrel length at 3015fps with 155.5gn - it runs at about 51,500psi by the same calculator and we're well over 10 reloads on brass (some would be closer to 15+) without any failures in Lapua SRP.
Recommended max pressure of 62,000psi, tells me you're fine. If it shoots, send it!
**DISCLAIMER** I'm not a gunsmith, armorer or qualified in any way. This is just researched info from a quick Google.
Lapua brass is outstanding by the way, and I find the 308 Palma brass just keeps going, as long as it's annealed and worked correctly.

Also difference in using different powders eg, 2208 - 2209 will vary pressures for a given velocity. Seek advice from other good FTR shooters on the range checking brass etc for pressure signs . Good luck stay safe

Going off your velocity it doesn't sound like your in the area that will damage the brass excessively. That being said you haven't mentioned what powder and how much you are using.
I have club/practice brass with 28 + reloads doing about the same velocity using 200h in a 32" barrel and 2208. Primer pockets aren't loose yet..
If your using 2208, with no primer craters, heavy bolt lift or clickers and your getting good results on the target then stick with it.
I recon the first firing on new brass with a lighter load seems to get me longer brass life.
Dave.

Thanks - I'm using 2208, so nothing unusual there. Barrel is a Krieger .300/.308 10 tw so I don't expect that to create anything unusual pressure wise. Definitely no obvious signs like clickers, heavy bolt lift etc - but I find modern actions with small diameter FP holes mask a lot of that as does the SRP brass unless your really pushing it.
The energy level is inside what many used to push 185s with 30" barrels so I figured I'd be ok but better to ask...
