Not that I shoot in SH at comps but in the hope that a genuine open class gets up one day

Action - Defiance Deviant
Cartridge - 6.5 PRC
Barrel - Bartlein HP 7.5 twist, 27”
Stock - McMillan A5
Trigger - triggertech diamond 2 stage @ 500 grams
Bipod - Atlas supercal
Scope - Nightforce ATACR 7-35 with Near MFG alphamount

Pete, that's a lot of rifle, does it come in under 6.5 kg? (SSRs weight limit).

I haven't bothered to check Aubrey.
The weight limt is of no account anyway. Weight checking would only apply in competition and competition is against the spirit and intent of the rules, see Rule 23.2.
I can shoot it as FOpen if it's an issue on club days.
It’s a shit set of rules with all the ambiguity that's built in
Pete

Seeing that the entire Sport/Hunter topic has virtually no uptake and the limited response to "what are you using" as above includes mostly custom barrel jobs etc.

Maybe there's a clue to how far this well intended attempt to bolster club/range numbers has gone off track.

From this very forums front page;
Sporting/Hunting Discipline
Introduced in 2019, this class is defined in Chapter 23 of the SSRs. It offers shooters with factory sporting rifles the opportunity of participating at NRAA ranges alongside TR and F-Class.

I have been shooting SH for 2 to 3 years now with completely factory Lithgows and found it near impossible to compete with aftermarket barrels.

In Sydney at the Kings (heavier rifles allowed), I decided to turn up with a Swan barrel chambered in PRC and found it very easy compared to the factory barrel. Ended up winning the leadup, 2nd in the Kings and Grand agg winner.

Funnily enough my point was proven in one event as I had complaints that it wasn't in the spirit of the class????

SH should be factory only rifles, no aftermarket Stocks, Actions or Barrels full stop!

SH has been a great learning experience for me and I've met some great people, I am parking SH later this year and moving into FTR, FOPEN and Match Rifle.

And once again, you’ll exclude pretty much everyone above and any cross-discipline uptake you might have had. The point of this was to illustrate that not everyone wants to shoot a factory rifle. In fact, most of those that shot the Vic Kings are enthusiasts and enjoy tinkering and modifying their rifle to still be hunting-practical and be able to use it on a range without spending $30k+ to keep in the mix with F-Open. And before we go down the “yOu WoUlDnT cArRy ThAt In ThE bUsH” line, half the rifles there were blooded AND modified. If we went all factory rifles, you can kiss Nagambie RC goodbye, because all of our SH shooters will no longer be compliant and that’ll fold the club.

Whilst this has hijacked the post, you need to understand that it's inception was never for customs or cross discipline. F Open is where anything goes.

For SH to be viable at State level comps, it needs to be as fair as possible for competitors, otherwise it just becomes a who has the thickest wallet class.

Custom rigs are for F Open, not entry level competition.
