I am seeking to have an action blueprinted and a new barrel fitted in .308 and would like some assistance from the forum in locating some-one nearby if possible, i live in the outer western suburbs of melbourne and am centerally located between the geelong, bendigo and ballarat areas as they are all within 1 hour from home.
Any help would be great to get this project off the ground :P

Peter Van Meurs at Pro-Cal in Bannockburn or Geoff Grenfell in Bendigo would be where I start looking. David Kerr use to do work but I think he has retired. If you want to travel, Shane Clancy in Narranderra NSW does accurising work. There may be others, anyone else with suggestions?

Have you considerd selling what you have and buying a Barnard action which offers great value for $ if you are building a LR target rifle?

Stuart,
What make of action are you planing to have " blueprinted " ?
Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a new one.

Sorry for the delay guy's, i have been dealing with around 2500 schoolies this weekend ](*,) . The action in question is from my parker hale (safari deluxe) in .243 which i have been told is a mauser 98. I was going to start from just the basic action and build it up from there with a new trigger, safety, barrel etc etc and was then going to take it down to geoff slee and have a new stock fitted.

G'Day Stu,
if your really keen in LR shooting, I'd look seriously at a new action such as the Barnard, as it comes with a trigger, and you can swap barrels in or out as you see fit as well as stocks since they use a V block (or a recoil stud or lug set up)

Swapping barrels it dead simple as well as swapping the stocks for different shooting styles such as F Open, FB, BR/Fly etc.

Also the lock time is much better than a PH, this is good for accuracy, also they are heat treated then ground true and square unlike some custom actions available today. Check out the links below
http://www.barnard.co.nz/
http://www.vra.asn.au/shop/rifle.shtml

the VRA shop in Bendigo sells the actions for $1800 which is a great price, especially as you dont need a trigger, or action trued.

And if you find you dont like the LR sport, the rifle can easily be sold on whereas your PH may not be as easy to sell later.......

hope this helps

thanks everyone i've decided to get rid of the parker hale and will get a new action and switch barrel set-up as soon as i get the additional funds to pass through the boss's hands. [-o< i will probably still go with the 308 and maybe one of the 6.5's as my other barrel???.
