my reamer has 0.2" freebore, but that can be adjusted.
with berger now being more inconsistent than they used to be and requiring batching, their edge over other brands might be lost.
Hornady, sierra, and berger seem to have offerings in the same zone on paper.
the eld match looks interesting.
considerations include cost, consistency, availability, reliability including not blowing up, stability, measurements, other.

since the above post I have also discovered the new nosler bullet.
it looks to be pointed in a forming die, a much better thing than a pointing die.
it seems about the same length as the Hornady tipped bullet which is recommended for a 1:8.75 twist, so a 1:8.5 would be good for both.
also there have been suggestions that sierra have become dearer than poison, which bergers might well do too.
there is apparently a shipment of bergers about to leave the us of a soon.

Nosler you will need to sort by weight - their tolerances for match grade bullets come in a 0.6gr as being acceptable.

I have mainly shot Berger 180VLD bullets in my 284’s.

But have found the old Sierra 175 to be a very accurate and easy tuning bullet (might not have the sexy BC) and very good to use in club shooting and Mid-Range.

Would be interested to see how people are going with the Hornady ELD’s and consistency??

I find that the 184 Bergers are Really shooting very well.

They run very very similar to the 183 smk’s out to 900m in wind shift but are shooting a tighter waterline in my 284’s both have 1-9twists but this is at the higveld here by us in RSA.

I’m sitting on 2000 of the 184s . Still waiting for the snow to melt here in Canada ! I’ve used the Sierra 183 the last few seasons and have no complaints . The sierras seem to have much narrower nodes than the 180 hybrid . Last year or so we have had poor supply on Berger’s so ran the Sierras . They tend to like a little more twist 8-8.5 / shehane and straight 284

The Sierra vary quite a bit in length ... not sure if it’s from the pointing ? I’ve shot over 5k of these and have had up to 40 thou difference between lots . I used an 8.5 twist at 800ft above sea level and would have chosen a 8.25 if one was available . I used .230 freebore with these and 180 hybrids . Running .240 for the 184s .

Some of the new 184s just landed in Australia and were gone a couple of hours later - how have you found tuning them? Easy or finicky?

I haven’t fired any yet as we are waiting for snow to melt ( Canada ) Supply is struggling here , same as you guys in OZ . I just acquired some a couple weeks ago . I sorted the 2500 I got from same lot and are very consistent BTO . 6 thou difference from high to low . Approximately 80% fell into 3 thou margin .

I loaded them exactly the same load as 183’s (except for loaded round on 183’s measuring .3mm longer on ogive) first group it shot a tighter group than the 183’s in both my .284’s.

They seem to tune very easy.

I have used a lot of the Sierra 183s, which I do like, but you certainly do want a twist faster than 9" , especially at 284 velocities and cooler weather. I will now only try them in my 8.5" barrels which they go well in and will also only use the 183 Copperheads in my 8.5" barrels
