Has been coming for a long while but things are starting to happen. Been saving my pennies and working at getting me a decent f-class rig. Life’s hard with a young family, and the dollars are getting close to the desired amount to get the bits I need to get it off the ground, so today I started on my stock. Got a fair bit of the rough shaping done, next step will be the inlet of the action when I get it. Things are starting to get real.

And progress is happening. Barrel fitted to the action and stock inlet done.

Don’t know why it is upside down but it is right way up if you click on it.

Ready for the cherry popping. And once again it’s upside down, don’t know what is going on but click on it and it is the right way up.

So build details, ultimatum u300 action, jewell BR trigger, Krieger 1:8 twist 0.264 30” barrel, stock made by me with a little help from Stephen Butler with the router work on the inletting, Barrel chambered and fitting thanks to David Brewster in 260 ackley, throated to suit 140 Berger hybrids. Trigger from Grenfell armouring. Pillars made on williadas lathe. Bedding stuffed and then fixed by me. Timber work ebonised using a many hundreds of year old technique. I will just add that kiwi neutral boot polish is a perfect release agent, crc dry glide silicone spray is not and should never be used anywhere near a firearm.

I'd be interested to hear whether you have any stiff bolt lift problems. Seems every report I've read on the u300 is accompanied by a comment on how heavy the bolt lift is.

That was amended with all the late model versions which came to Australia. To be honest I don’t think it’s that much heavier than most of the barnard actions I have shot.
