two good friends of mine ran the 6mm/7mm regime for many years.
one discovery they made was that the 7 is capable of grouping as well as the 6.
they also discovered their shooting improved quite a bit when they dropped the 6mm cartridge, and just stuck to the 7. this might also have been the case were things reversed.
they just got used to the one set of ballistics, no confusion, and went ahead in leaps and bounds.

Never heard of Mr Hemmingway, but know Mr Cheytac quite well!

Think scalled up 6mmBR.
Its got the accuracy of a 6mmBR, The powder capacity of a .300WSM and can shoot 230gn Bergers with ease.

I agree with Sendit, for club shooting, Im not going to use my 7mm when its built except for 800-1000yds and windy days. 6mm the rest as its cheaper to run. 38.50 per 100 vs 60 plus per 100 and the powder cost on top. Thats getting up there for an arvo of club shooting.

I will continue to run 6mm and 7mms in bigger shoots for the following reasons.
1. Lower cost of shooting a 6mm when it is no disadvantage at short ranges.
2. Less wear and tear on scopes with the light recoiling 6mms.
3. I'm gun nut and love to get out and play with 6 PPCs, BRs, Dashers, WSSMs etc

but norm,
you know that small primer lapua brass is di rigeur.

I'm not sold on the PPC but have an action on order with a ppc bolt face so there could be one in my future. When i want to be serious i will shoot a 223 in F Class or my 6mm Dasher (when its finished) in F Open but if the day chops up or i want to play i will pull out one of the other rifles and have some fun. 243, 260, 6.5Hill, 280AI, 300WM, 284 or the bigger ones in the works.

Exactly why club shooting isnt anything more than fun and time to experiment. I would use the 6mm at 1000yds no troubles. People do it with 308 and 223 and 6mm will drift less so why put the smaller cals away just because you go further out? Best way to learn is by making mistakes when it wont cost you anything.

No Offence but when you have one you WILL use it at the longs, it's just what happens, this gun for this, that gun for that.

The problem starts in the morning before you get to the range, you will be shooting at 700 and it looks like it will cut up do I use this or that, dammit I'll take both and make the call at lunch time.
Now you take two guns and ammo to the range every weekend its over 700.
