To be fair to all the Engineers out there, it might be better to say nice bit of metalwork?
I must admit, this iteration of Alan's stock seems to have more flair
Looks like the pending trip to USA has prompted a rework of a well performing setup. Now to finish it off, just a little yellow paint dabbled here and there would be just what the doctor ordered, to finish off this piece of machining.
Well done to all on a great shoot, and to Dave for leading the way.
Final results : I can only give you F-Open top 10 (unofficial) :
Dave McNamara 538.50 Mark Fairbairn 534.46 Marty Lobert 532.52 Richard Braund 530.49 Barry Lewis 530.44 Cam McEwan 529.25 Stuart Braund 527.29 Julie McEwan 526.32 Ben Ferrara 526.28 Rod Davies 525.47
With 6 of the Top Ten being Queenslanders, plus 2 from SA and 2 from NSW, i think it would be very timely to hold a "State of Origin Teams" series ASAP.....some sort of "winner takes all" type of contest with at least 12 months bragging rights, and no disparaging comments from the losing States about "easy to read" wind for that whole 12 months
Extreme accuracy and precision shooting at long range can be a very addictive pastime.
This was my first Nationals though I didn't shoot the Presidents. I didn't expect to place anywhere in the first half of the field but really just wanted the experience and to get my competition CV started. I came away with a few good lessons learned regarding conditions, strategy, my own equipment and preparation. I also came away with a real understanding of where F-open scores and averages need to be these days to be Nationally competitive.
I was really happy to have met and put faces to the names of Tony, Dave, Allan and Keith, all who offered some great advice in different areas, in one way or another.
I was lucky enough to be on Dave's target and watch in awe as he only dropped 2 points over 3 days, 9 ranges, 1 saturated rainy day, 2 beautiful days and some really inconsistent wind conditions overall with both wet flags and dry.
The overall talent there was "unbelievable". At one stage I shot a 59.4 which I was really happy with (its above my average) but considering the company, it was only enough to buy 22nd position out of 36 shooters. Most days of the year, that would place well up the ladder at a club meet or an OPM.
I'm really looking forward to the QRA Queens.
Cheers Jim for all your help. Its very much appreciated.
bruce moulds wrote:nice photos guys. a noticable feature is a lot more grey or no hair and wrinkles than i expected. shooting must be a very stressful passtime! keep safe, bruce.
Are you saying we aren't all blessed with your boyish good looks Bruce???
Back on deck now after an intense and tiring week. Thank you everybody for all your kind words but I would like to put the focus back on the AUS F class team.
I have to say the highlight for me was the way the whole team turned up for this event. They not only turned up in body but with enthusiasm and top quality gear that was working well. Obviously every one had put in a huge effort. It was truly inspiring and confidence building. I take my hat off to you all and it will be an honor to line up with you in Raton. BRING IT ON!

I second that Dave with 2 days of practise the FO team was starting to jell very well just imaging what it will be like with a few more in Raton.
Eagerly looking forward to it with a great bunch of girls and boys doing it toe to toe with the rest of the world we are very fortunate to have 2 very good wind coaches.
BRING IT ON! Hoorah!!
And I would personally like to thank the 2 Dave’s and Pete Smith for all the work and systems they have been developing “brilliant”
Hey Dave forgot to ask you how come you dropped 2 points bloody awesome.
2 Queens back to back. Belmont had one of the best fields of top self FO shooter that I have ever been fortunate to compete against that’s for sure.
And I congratulate all of you well done.
And commiseration to those that had put in a solid performance until the last 1000yr it always hurts a bit for awhile until the next Queens comes around and you line up to do it all again.
having been involved in fclass virtually since its inception in australia, i have been fortunate to see many developments.
among these has been successive raisings of the bar.
standards have evolved, followed by plateaus of performance for periods of time.
while these plateaus have been in place, many of us wondered what the next level would be, or would this be the ceiling?
we have just witnessed the next level in the name of dave mc namara.
will someone eclipse him in years to come? time will tell, but it will be much harder this time.
all the people who have set the standard have had several things in common.
while at their peaks, they have been humble, and have always put the sport before themselves.
they have helped others unreservedly, and had their heads in the right place for competition.
these people have been labelled as freaks and suchlike in their time, but they are just human beings doing their best.
with dave setting the pace it looks good for the sport, and as a bonus, he is applying himself to representing australia in raton.
congratulations dave.
bruce.

danny,
the photos showed hair, lack of hair, etc.
wish i could have been there immensely.
it would have been a great honour to compete it that company, probably the cream of australian fclass, and i believe equal to if not better than any group of a similar number of shooters anywhere in the world.
it was fantastic to see so many open shooters together.
years ago it was often lucky to get 3 or 4 shooters to a prize shoot, and the same old ones had to go to them all, so there would be something there next year. how it has changed for the better.
the old days had fclass open shooters off down one end of the range like lepers due to the old target we used. the current one has brought us into the mainstream of fullbore shooting, with the the acceptance we deserve.
i put it around the girls that i would be in brisvegas, and had a very peaceful weekend. did you see any harems lurking around up there?
keep safe,
bruce.
