OK, sledging is now well under way, can we now declare the S.A Queens officially open?

Yes and here's one for Mr Fairbairn - we are going to be SQUADDED, through all ranges of both the leadup and Queens, so that all classes are shooting roughly at the same time as their peers. e.g. at the first range F-Open shooters will be squadded 7th of the approx 9 shooters per target. There will even be a break between disciplines so the first shooters of each will start at exactly the same time! And on a range like Lower Light, there will be no excuses about where you are on the mound, because there are no trees and its all dead flat

Yes, taken from pulled Chinese pistol ammo.
Could be better than than the stuff they use in the sky rockets or Roman candles.

Well I've made it to lower light
Got to tell you it looks nothing like the brochure they put out a couple of years back, the full range cover must have blown away and I can't find the swimming pool anywhere!
More like a scene from we of the never never complete with a realistic dust storm near by
Glad I didn't bring the dog because he would have blown off the chain by now
No tears yet but I'm sure they will come

We've done the 300, started 500. Warm, overcast. Wind was moderate to strong, consistently from 5 o'clock for 300. Now its tending more to 4 o'clock, and strengthening

Looks like your getting the winds that we got the last few days Alan. Hopefully there isnt too much rain to go with it. Though looks like tomorrow will be rough here and it will probably hit you guys over the weekend. Good luck to all.

Did Laurence of Arabia's camel have one lump or two ?
Something I have discovered here is that dust is much easier to read than mirage
Still beats being at work

Having been a member at Phoenix Target Rifle club located on that range for the last 2 years i can say the wind will generally not die down in speed but the direction changes may settle a little later in the day.

I'll join John in this one.
You Open class blokes are wimps. Us keyboard class shooters would have scored much higher if we were there.

Apparently that dust does get thick at time.
When I went over in 2009, I was caught in the second big dust storm, but the first was better. Seems this convoy of three trucks was around Yunta heading from Adelaide to Broken Hill when they decided it was getting a tad thick, so they decided that, on the call on the radio, they would run off the road & stop on the count of (?) 20. That worked, & in the clear daylight, the third rig was a couple of clicks down the road & the second less than a metre off the bum of the first.

Finally started 600m at 3:15 - wind has dropped to just strong, and squared up a bit from the right.
